Perhaps both of those points are true.

But I agree, no way they were going to overturn with that video evidence.
I agree too. But the ball motion change is barely perceptible in super slo-mo, frame-by-frame, zoomed-in. The officials didn't see it and replays didn't show anything conclusive. They got the call wrong but everything they did in the process was OK.

Of all the things we can complain about in this game. The officiating of this call isn't one of them.

It absolutely is something we can complain about. If you can see it, then there is no reason for “professionals” to miss it...

It isn’t “barely” perceptible, it is rather easily perceptible....
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

LOL. OK We agree to disagree then.

I wish the field of view in the GIF was wider. I think that would give us a better idea of the angular velocity of the ball before it gets close to his helmet.

When I watched it the first time, it looks like the angular velocity increases because the nose of the ball hit his face mask (not the part highlighted in the video). But, that might be a bit of an optical illusion because the ball comes into the frame close to horizontal. And it looks like there's some angular acceleration, but it's hard to judge because we don't have many frames before what I think is the contact.

Ultimately, I think it's inclusive (but I think it's like 90% that it hit Chubb).

              What I hope:

              1) They realized the system was broken last year because the refs were overturning calls based on speculation instead of conclusive evidence.

              and

              2) They think the system will work if they use it exactly how it was meant to work (i.e. only overturn calls when they are conclusively wrong).

Maybe it’s a little extreme, but if you trace a line through the center of the ball, you can definitely see that it changes direction. It can’t change direction spontaneously in the air. The camera is stationary. As is the hand of the fan in the background. If neither of those things moved, you can know that it isn’t some kind of optical illusion.

They didn’t do #2 on Sunday...for us nor for the Texans...AGAIN...

I swear the NFL and Pats have an agreement.
