From the article: "There's literally no other player in the league who would turn down a contract that made them the highest-paid player at their position by SIX MILLION DOLLARS."

Speaks volumes to the type of individual L. Bell is.

I understand wanting to "get paid", but that's completely ridiculous.

      Thanks, but no thanks.

Time to run those wheels in the ground and get all they can.

I’m just hoping Bell doesn’t come around till the week of the start of the season. By then we’ll know what we have in the other two guys.

The 70 million was probably fine for Bell. The structure of the contract was probably the issue. Bell probably wanted more guaranteed money up to the point where it would be difficult for the Steelers to cut him after 2 or 3 season if he didn't produce. Basically meaning he wanted "security" for his entire 5 year contract.

                Bingo.

After 3 years they could cut Bell loose to save money.

                He wants more security.

Probably true. In which case he may have a tougher time than we suspect finding a team that will do this. It starts to look like a terrible bet that this half-wit won't fire up the bong again a year or two down the road, if he knows he gets paid anyway.

Bell is clearly in uncharted territory. As has been stated.. nobody's ever turned down the level of increase that he just did (above the #2 in the league salary). Whether you choose to call it ego...stupidity, etc.. one thing wed all agree on is that he's taking a hell of a gamble by not signing. Let's face the facts.. he has an injury history.. at a position that has a low life expectancy. The chips are not stacked in his favor. If he truly wanted security, he should have signed the deal he turned down earlier today.

It's looking more and more that way. Seems like there is always a team willing to overpay, but he wants a team to budget an overpayment for 4-5 years. His gamble is starting to look stupid. I guess we shall see in a year......

Meanwhile, it's a real question now whether he shows up until mid-season. He could care less about the Steelers. His only incentive now is to stay injury free, while still demonstrating his skills enough. 8 games may be all he thinks is needed.

I like this scenario because Bell will be playing as hard as he can this season for his next contract.

he might think he will slide right in there mid season and tear it up. I remember Bell looking a step slow out of the gate last yr though. took him a while to get going. Will be interesting to see how Bell factors in if he holds out.. and Conner/Samuels perform well.

I just can't see him leaving that kind of scratch on the table
