Maybe next year they can let him practice in a black and gold shirt too?
ROI = dismal.Comment

Steelers Projected To Receive 3rd Round Compensatory Pick For Le’Veon Bell
By Alex Kozora
Posted on January 3, 2020
No one knows the jungle that is the NFL’s compensatory formula better than Over the Cap’s Nick Korte. Korte published his final comp pick predictions Friday afternoon and projects the Pittsburgh Steelers to receive a 3rd round pick for losing Le’Veon Bell in the offseason.
Of course, this is far from a surprise. Pittsburgh’s always been projected to get a third rounder and put themselves in position to do so after cutting ties with Donte Moncrief mid-season. The comp pick should come in around pick #100. The Steelers currently hold the 49th or 50th pick in the second round, giving them limited draft capital this year.
The third rounder is the only pick Korte projects the Steelers to receive this offseason. Anything else they may have been eligible for is cancelled out by their signing of CB Steven Nelson.
Bell ultimately had a poor year on a below-average Jets team. Here’s a comparison of his stats from his final year in Pittsburgh to 2019 in New York.
2017: 321 carries, 1291 yards (4.0 YPC) 11 total touchdowns
2019: 245 carries, 789 yards (3.2 YPC) 4 total touchdowns
Head coach Adam Gase has made his displeasure of the Bell signing abundantly clear and it’s possible, likely even, the Jets trade him during the offseason. Pittsburgh was reportedly interested, to what level we don’t know, in Bell at the trade deadline though he ultimately remained in New York.
Korte projects five teams other than Pittsburgh to receive third round comp picks: New England (with two picks), the Giants, Seattle, Houston, and Philadelphia.
According to his projections, the Patriots and Seahawks are expected to receive the most amount of compensatory picks with four apiece.
The league will announce the official results sometime in the next six to seven weeks. Last year, they were released on February 22nd.
Looking ahead to next season, assuming a very quiet free agency period for Pittsburgh in 2020, they should net a 3rd/4th round comp pick in 2021 for Javon Hargrave, depending on the contract he receives on the open market.

Art Rooney II says Le'Veon Bell 'experience' won't impact Steelers' use of franchise tag
GERRY DULAC
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
JAN 21, 2020
The Steelers aren’t going to let a bad experience with Le’Veon Bell affect their decision to use a franchise or transition tag on outside linebacker Bud Dupree.
Team president Art Rooney II said the situation with Bell, who skipped training camp in 2017 and sat out the entire 2018 season after receiving the franchise tag, was an isolated incident and will not impact what the Steelers do with Dupree, who is an unrestricted free agent.
After two years of wondering if and when Bell would report to the team, the Steelers decided to wash their hands of the continuous uncertainty and parted ways with their All-Pro running back 11 months ago. He signed a long-term deal with the New York Jets.
“I don’t think that affects the way we think about franchise tags or anything at this point,” Rooney said. “We had one, I’ll call it unusual experience, and I think it was that — an unusual experience.”
Bringing back Dupree, who is coming off his best NFL season, is a “high priority” for the Steelers, according to coach Mike Tomlin. Rooney agreed with that assessment during an interview last week. And they intend to do that by using the franchise tag, which would cost them approximately $16 million in 2020, based on a salary cap of $200 million.
The Steelers cannot place the franchise tag on Dupree until Feb. 25, which is also the first day of the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. They then have two weeks, or until March 10, to use the tag. If they don’t, Dupree is free to sign with another team and will likely command a premium price as an edge rusher who can sack the quarterback.
“When you look around the league, people use the franchise tag, and sometimes it works to help get a contract done,” Rooney said. “Sometimes it’s a short-term solution, but for the most part, it’s what’s helped teams keep players on the field.”
It is unlikely the team will try to sign Dupree, 26, to a long-term deal because that money is being earmarked for a big contract for Pro Bowl outside linebacker T.J. Watt, who has one year and an option remaining on his rookie deal. But they can still keep him around for at least one more season, maybe two, with a franchise tag.
The Steelers elected to use a fifth-year option on Dupree that cost them $9.2 million in 2019, hoping the move would also serve to motivate their former No. 1 draft pick. He responded by posting a career-high 11½ sacks, leading the team with 16 tackles for loss, finishing second with four forced fumbles and third with two fumble recoveries.
Dupree teamed with Watt to have 26 sacks, the most by a Steelers outside linebacker tandem since James Harrison (16) and LaMarr Woodley (11½) combined for 27½ in 2008.
The Steelers do not want to disrupt that production. And they are not going to let what happened with Bell impact the process.

Of course they will entertain offers. Every FO picks up the phone when someone calls but they aren’t moving him unless they get a legit offer.
Which means teams are still
interested in his talents.Steelers 27

Teams weren't interested in paying him even close to what the Jets did last year. I would think the Jets could only deal him if they ate part of his contract or give up picks to dump him and his salary. How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?Comment
