Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus. -
I think this is pretty well stated.I don't disagree with any of this.
My complaints about Tomlin are things like clock mgt, playing down to competition, in-game decisions, etc.
He's also been blessed with several hall of famers (including QB), which makes his job a little easier. But he has won (a lot), has a SB, and I have a hard time believing there are many (if any) coaches out there that could do better.
He, like everyone else, should be held accountable for losing, and should get credit for winning.
How he does this year will have a long way to go in shaping his legacy. The window for the Steelers to win has never been better, and with the amount of talent on the team right now, this group needs to win a Lombardi.
Next year will be tough - unless the cap increases significantly, the team is right at the cap and would need to clear significant room to keep bell. And that's just right now with 39 players under contract.Comment

If they cut Mitchell, McDonald, and JJ Wilcox, that gives them enough money to franchise Bell again...I think this is pretty well stated.

I think you address Mitchell’s position in the draft. For all that McDonald and Wilcox played, you would probably do just as well with Jake McGee and Jordan Dangerfield from the practice squad...and I like McDonald...he just can’t seem to stay healthy...according to the depot, he had a $500K+ escalator in his contract if he suited up for 11 games...he was available only for 10 games, so the Steelers should be credited for that Likely To Be Earned incentive on the 2018 cap...
Then, more restructuring, I think...Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

Report: 2018 NFL Salary Cap Could Rise to $178 Million
By Scooby Axson
December 13, 2017
The salary cap next season for the National Football League is expected to be the range of $174 million to $178 million, reports NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.
Teams were told of the increase before the league's meetings in Dallas. The official salary cap number won't be known until the start of the league year in March.
This year's salary cap was set at $167 million, which was the fourth straight season the cap saw an increase.
The San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets are projected to have the most to spend on free agents next season.
Among the players expected to hit the free agent market are Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Garoppolo, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford and Seattle Seahawks tight end Jimmy Graham.

But in any event, things are lined up well this year. Aside from the gaping hole at ILB from Shazier's injury, the team is healthy and most guys are playing as well as they ever have.Comment
