Sammie Coates on fumbling twice: I was careless

Steelers wide receiver Sammie Coates has been the subject of praise from several sources inside and around the team this offseason and summer, but the train hit a bump on Friday night against the Lions.

Coates caught three passes for 18 yards, ran once for no gain and fumbled twice during his team’s preseason opener. While the Steelers are looking for players to help fill in for the suspended Martavis Bryant (and possibly tight end Ladarius Green as well) and like the potential Coates has shown for that role, fumbles are a big problem to overcome.

“I just gotta bounce back, I was careless with the ball,” Coates said, via the team’s website. “I just have to put the ball away. To be a guy to run with the ball you have to be able to protect it. I have to do a better job protecting the ball. I just got excited out there, being careless and trying to do too much.”

Coates will have more opportunities this summer to make good on the buzz he generated in the last few months, but so will Eli Rogers and Darrius Heyward-Bey and the winner won’t be the guy putting the ball on the ground.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

We should give all our WRs even numbers in the 80s...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

I really dont understand how you fumble twice in the same game. How can yoube carelss with the ball after you fumble the first time?

It happens a lot tho so I guess its being stubborn or its muscle memory.

Success in the regular season only counts when you draft your own quarterback first.

                    none of it counts...

put an asterisk by Tomlins accomplishments until Ben retires.

Neither Dan Bylsma nor Mike Sullivan deserve any credit for winning Stanley Cups with the Penguins because Crosby and Malkin were drafted when Eddie Olcyzk was the coach.

Neither Badger Bob Johnson nor Scotty Bowman deserve any credit for winning Stanley Cups with the Penguins because Lemieux was drafted when Bob Berry was the coach.

is this your way of saying you don't follow hockey?

everyone credits the coaching change with saving the season.
