They gave up a fifth round pick for a guy who came in and ended up playing pretty well for us in the last 6 games and in the playoffs...not bad...probably more than they would have gotten out of a fifth round pick...
If he came back, I wouldn't be sad...especially if he could play as well for us over 16 games as he did for 6...Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

Jesse James is the only 5th round pick to show much of anything since way back when we drafted William Gay in round 5. In between, we had Dennis Dixon, Joe Burnett, Frank Summers, Chris Scott, Crezdon Butler, Stephenson Sylvester, Chris Carter, Chris Rainey, Terry Hawthorne, Shaquille Richardson, and Wesley Johnson. In a weird way, it's probably a good thing that we gave Philly a 5th round pick instead of a 6th or 7th, because we tend to find some quality players in rounds 6 & 7, but our 5th round picks tend to suck.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment

Joren: Re Boykin: Come on, there's no way someone like you has not heard the real issues he had with the team, can you please elaborate and not dodge?
Ed Bouchette: As far as I know, Brandon Boykin was a model citizen in Pittsburgh and even held his tongue as he was being ignored. The coaches made their decisions purely on football ability and how he fit or did not into their system. I have no idea what happened in Carolina.

I read somewhere that the Panthers released Boykin because they were really pleased with their rookie CBs in this past weekend's camp. Who knows if that's the real reason. I hated that we lost the guy, given his production in limited action...and given our problems in the secondary. I just hope that Golson and Burns can match that production this year and next year.. We don't need 3-4 year projects, unless we've also got a plan to match Big Ben's production from that point forward.Comment

Brandon Boykin to visit Falcons on Monday
Well-traveled cornerback Brandon Boykin will be traveling to a new NFL city.
D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Boykin will visit the Falcon on Monday.
A fourth-round draft pick of the Eagles in 2012, Philly traded him last year to the Steelers. Boykin barely contributed in one season with Pittsburgh, and he then signed with Carolina as a free agent.
Carolina’s decision to dump Boykin came only days after coach Ron Rivera explained that it would be impossible to fully assess the team’s rookie cornerbacks before they can engage in bump-and-run coverage and other contact drills at training camp. Apparently, they saw enough from Boykin to move on.
Whether Boykin can show the Falcons enough to get a job will be determined on Monday.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

I live in Charlotte and fans aren't thrilled with the GM right now. Sure they like the success but there is still this frustration with how calculated and cold he is at dumping players too early. They pulled the tag on Norman and now they released Boykin because they have faith in their young corners and don't want them to lose snaps behind a vet. Gwttleman is really banking on the front 7 making the RB's look better than they are. He might be right but if it doesn't work this year best bwlive fans will point to his quick trigger with vets in the secondary.I read somewhere that the Panthers released Boykin because they were really pleased with their rookie CBs in this past weekend's camp.
