The team drafted players that addressed the loss of aging players. The Steelers developed their share of players too. I don't think you realize how difficult it is to replace good/great NFL players. There hasn't been a team that's been able to figure out how replace good/great player losses that constitutes the making of a good/great team a high % of the time.
The Steelers gave Ziggy Hood a chance to develop into the player they hoped he would become. Unfortunately, he didn't develop into what they envisioned. The interesting things is that they gave him a chance to develop and you complain. No one knows when the light will go on for a player.
For whatever reasons, teams are not able to keep every player they draft or develop. Maybe you missed the boat but this is the era of free agency. Teams can't, don't, or won't keep every player for mostly financial reasons. By Keenan Lewis' own words he wanted to play for New Orleans.
In some ways, the Steelers are victims of their own success. The NFL is designed as such that no team can stay on top forever. We are fortunate that the Steelers find ways to remain competitive when good teams in the past fell completely off the ledge.
I think the organization has earned the right for patience from this fan base.
