He has done that at times most of his career.
4 yrs of decline against what benchmark? 2008 Steelers defense was arguably one of the best of all time. So yea, declining from that level is pretty much expected. Still as late as 2011 Steelers had the top scoring defense. I just don't know what more DL is expected to do to please some fans. Why not ask the offense to score more pts/gm..a category the Steelers haven't cracked the top 10 in 7 yrs even with BR at QB!!??

All time great defenses don't blow a 20-7 4th quarter lead in a Super Bowl.

Because they don't want that. The offense basically has three quarters to get the job done. Because if they have a lead in the 4th? They run the ball.

2 of those 16 pts were a gift from the offense courtesy a safety; one touchdown was a blown coverage with a long touchdown by Fitzergald. The other team is paid to score too....

And the other team is paid to stop our offense, no?

AZ was 3rd in the NFL in scoring that season. The Steelers defense held them to under their pts/gm average. AZ's defense was 28th in the NFL in scoring so they weren't expected to put up much of a fight against the Steelers scoring and the Steelers scored above the per gm average.

Our offense kept their offense off the field for most of the first half. And we held the ball for a 16 play 8:40 minutes drive on our first possession in the 3rd quarter.

That's how our defense gets their ranking, by our OFFENSE holding the ball.
