Good for him, and good for the Steelers, as this salary will factor into the comp pick formula.
thats really not a bad contract for a starting D lineman. and the SB is small enough that he wont hurt the cap if he's cut before the 4 years is up.
at least they'll be using him to his strengths. i predicted he would try to find a team that ran a 4-3.
why stick around and try to play patty cake with the OL instead of using the ability that got you drafted high in the first place. at a psoition that best fits those talents

what a colossal mistake from the beginning. taking a 4-3 DT in the 1st round and trying to convert him to end. idiotic

You just wonder how good this team would be if they didn't make idiotic decisions like this one. Blowing first round draft picks is so, so damaging.

          Addition by subtraction.

What I wouldn't give to have a mulligan on that draft pick....

I wanted James Laurinaitis and got Ziggy Hood.

I get disgusted when thinking of the '09 draft.

Ziggy Hood was not the BPA for a team that runs a 3-4 defense...

                i agree with that.

the ones that did like the pick defended it saying he was BPA

great, that will help offset the Mitchell contract in comp for 2015
Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.

At the time, he was...in hindsight, perhaps not...

Not crying over Hood, but it is a symptom of a larger issue... It reminds me of rats deserting a sinking ship. It signals the lack of any culture that would tend to make guys look for reasons to stay. Among other things, it signals a lack of a direction, a lack of leadership.

It further reinforces my statement, that we need to hit a home run in this year's draft, in terms of bringing in true leaders.
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

Maybe the FO told Hood they did not think he was worth retaining or had no contact with him altogether. Silence by the FO could speak volumes and Hood read between the lines. It could be a good split for both, Hood leaves the stigma of being an underwhelming 1st rounder and the Steelers look into other avenues.

The irony being that Ziggy Hood (under the radar guy, middle of the road guy, with tread on tires) is precisely the kind of guy we've targeted in FA.

Maybe they thought they got all they could with Hood and want to try elsewhere. I'd rather give the Carrington guy a try than C. Thomas.

Hood was durable and was a solid character guy (team captain at Missouri etc) when the santonio holmes thing was going on. And he wore #96....don't know what more to say about the guy. Not really invested in whether he stayed or went. That says it all when you're talking about a former #1.
