The level Pouncey plays at is higher than Velasco..Sorry. There has been drop of with Bronco & Velasco. If anyone can sit here & say this team isn't better with Pouncey in the line-up...You don't know what you are looking at. Want to argue if he is worth his asking price...We will have to wait & see what it is.

Actually Mangold is the highest paid C at 9.1 mil in 2013. I wouldn't give Pouncey the 7/50 he signed until I see '14. Unger signed a 4/25. I would sign him for Unger money avg.Comment

IMO, Pouncey has ALL the tools except just a bit more size/strength. He always has struggled against the bigger/strong NTs.
But it's been that way since his rookie year and I haven't seen any improvement.
What I don'nt understand is we've seen little to no drop off with Velasco and Legursky when Pouncey went down with injuries. 2 times is a trend. How can you justify big bucks to Pouncey when you've seen 2 backups replace him adequately? I don't know. I think it's a difficult scenario....It greatly depends on the Pouceny's contract demands.
Scott Wells is the highest paid center in 2013. Would you give Pouceny the same contract that Scott Wells received?
4 years / 25.5 million
4 million signing bonus
Average Salary: 6.375
Guaranteed: 13 million
Would you give Pouncey a 5 year / 30 million deal?
What if you got Velasco for less than half that amount of $ which would give you a good chunk of change to go out and pick up a solid FA to fill a critical need such as FS?
As far as drop off... not getting to the second level IS huge... and using 2 games with Legs or 8 games with Velasco isn't a trend... we haven't seen either put in a full season with a solid return. Legs played a few games and Velasco played 7 or 8. That isn't a trend..
We've seen Gay and Redman get the same treatment when they "started a few games and had good production... it didn't pan out so well when we tried to use them as started for a whole season. Replacing a player for a few games isn't the same thing as starting 14 to 16 games for 2 or 3 years straight.Steelers 27

this is not true. In fact, this year is the worst by far for OL injuries and missed PT:

btw, I respect your opinion on Pouncey and if you are correct, we should hopefully see good things from him again next season (unless he is expecting a Brinks to deliver his next contract, in which case I would think it would cause the Steelers to rethink his value).Steelers 27

Didn't we lose Colon Pouncey's rookie season for the entire season?
Didn't we lose DeCastro Pounceys entire second season?
We also lost our #1 and #2 qb's for a good portion of last season.
When Pouncey went down and missed the superbowl, wasn't there a lot of pressure on Ben forcing a bad throw that lead to a pick 6? Wasn't there also a forced fumble in that game? That doesn't seem like a drop off to you? I mean, wasn't it stated that Legs was just as good? Really?
