The backup is always the most popular guy in Pittsburgh. Meanwhile we complain about our best players. You don't have to agree, but it's true.

I would say (it's worse) so for any player. Achilles sucks.

I think Velasco has earned the chance to battle for the backup interior lineman position on this team.
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

We have had some horrific luck with the interior of the O line starting with the Embernate injury in training camp.

Basically... look at Worlids, dude was a bum but now he is an all pro.

Pounvey didn't avoid DD so it shows he is injury prone.... and he also hasn't elevated his play so he is a bum

I feel really bad for Velasco. Seems like a decent guy, and he was in line for his first payday. Not crazy money, but he was likely to get a seven figure contract somewhere. Going into FA with a blown out Achilles, I'm not even sure that he'll get an offer. Very unfortunate for him.

I like Velasco, but he had no future at Center in Pittsburgh. He would have been a nice guard though.

Actually...when I look at Velasco's play this year with Pittsburgh...versus Pouncey's the last few years. I think Velasco has been better. When I think of Pouncey, I think of him getting smashed in the pre season. I think Pouncey was real quick out of the gate, and has been living off of the hype as of late..

That's probably because you have high expectations for Pouncey and zero for Velasco.

If Velasco was healthy and replaced Pouncey next year fans would be on him like crazy after the first sack.

Velasco looked great because we didn't expect much and he did a decent job. However, the running game was still horrible and we had a ton of sacks until we went no huddle, up tempo the last few games.

lots of assuming going on there dizz.

Velasco was solid, period. Not sure why you would pin the lack of a running game on him...or the sacks for that matter. The overall line play of this year's team is well documented.. and out of all of the players that caught a hard time.. Velasco was seldom if ever mentioned.

All I know is that the Rashad Butler signing is a sad sign of the state of this OL. He is pure garbage and couldn't even make it on a bad OL like the Browns. If he has to come into a game, pity Roethlisberger.

he was available for a reason... sorry but I don't see how Velasco was better than Pouncey.

Lots of reasons why guys are available. In Velasco's case, he was a casualty of a salary cap issue with Tennessee.

Sorry that you can't see the possibility that Pouncey is overhyped, injury prone, and an underachiever in recent years.

There is no comparison between pouncey and velasco. except to people who have no clue.

Hard to argue with that piece of intellect.

kidis.. just read your post in another thread about how you thought Pouncey was overrated. Before I jump to conclusions, I wanted to give you a chance to clarify your last statement. Is an "Overrated" Pouncey better than Velasco?
