I've hated the Tebow hype since college and I also hated the Tyler Hansbrough hype at the same time.

I hate anyone who gets the "he works harder than anyone else I've ever known" label.
I can respect a dislike for Tebow, and I'm not a fan myself. I was certainly disappointed that James Harrison wasn't able to line him up.

My bigger issue was with JAR's position that somehow Pouncey's comments were related to Tebow.
They aren't freaking related. It's two separate people expressing their thoughts, one you have a problem with, one you don't.

That's why I brought up the comparison. Tebow can go on ad nauseum on TV about Jesus, Pouncey tweets a couple of thoughts and he's a thug, not a team player. Get it???

I'll also make a wager that when his season is over, he's out stumping for one of the presidential candidates for the same reason that already made him a 'star'.

And again, has Tebow shown an disinterest in his team? Or opened himself up to his actions being construed as disinterest? Has he insulted his fans?

Apparently, you don't like the substance of Tebow's message, but you support Pouncey's "message." If so, that's truly sad and pathetic.

There are a lot of Broncos fans who are insulted by Tebow because of his over zealous religiousness. Read some of the Broncos boards. Here is just one small example.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bronco-F ... &filter=12

Thanking Jesus after a win doesn't show any disinterest in your team? Did Jesus win the game or did the team? There is no 'I" in Jesus.

Did I ever say I supported Pouncey's message anymore than I do Tebows? No, read again. I'm saying that Pouncey is labeled a thug for expressing himself but Tebow is holier than thou for doing the same.

2 people, two separate instances of expressing themselves, one is OK, because it's Christian like, the other is not.

I'm done.

Just a technical clarification -- the PG reporter did not have to seek out Pouncey's responses. Any of Pouncey's 54,000+ followers would automatically see his responses. I'm not going to take the time to look through the list, but I'd be willing to bet that there are a few reporters among his followers. What would take effort and legwork is looking at the tweets to which Pouncey was responding -- I took the time and posted those earlier.

Quite frankly, despite over 100 posts on the topic, I fail to see any rational connection between Pouncey's tweets and Tebow.
Dude, you answered yourself.

Pouncey's tweets were primarily to the 54000 people who *chose to follow him*. Any further publicity they got were secondary -- being passed on.

Tebow's obvious exhibition of his religiousness is not to people who follow *him* -- its to everyone who follows the NFL.

The former is not being thrust on anyone other than those who subscribe to having it thrust on them. The latter is just in your face.

A large number of us here, maybe the majority even, are religious in our own way. You wouldn't know it. That's normal. Tebow is not. He's out there somehow trying to show everyone how he is more christian or good or religious than they by his public demonstrations. Its more than annoying, its offensive, not only to the atheists and anti-christian folks, but also to many decent christian folks as well.

A large number of us say stupid things in our own private soapboxes. Pouncey did too. You may not agree with what he said, but its not abnormal behavior for a 22 year old.

I find nothing annoying about Troy -- he thanks his god in a quick gesture and isn't in your face about it.

Notice how I get an anti-Christian bias label because what Tebow does offends me? "You hate Tebow because he loves God!"

Tebow rams his religion in your face, hell he even had a commercial during the SB last year. Ben, Troy and others do not and it's also not what made them famous.

He's only a media sensation for one reason and one reason only and his promotion of Jesus, before, during and after games is OK by some because being a Christian is the only 'right' thing to do.
JAR, when has Tebow ever "rammed his religion" in your face? Have you met him and had him do this to you? Have you ever had him scream his religion in your face? NO. It is not Tim Tebow. It is the MEDIA. Tebow is no more open about his faith than many other athletes who profess Christianity. It is the hype of the MEDIA. Your point about Tebow being known for his religion is absurd. Totally absurd. Maybe that is your point, to try and blow up the board with asinine comments. If that is your goal, well done!

So, you have the right to hate anyone you would like. You have the right to be anti-Christian, anti-Buddhist or whatever, but you are DEAD WRONG on the point you are weakly trying to make. Do not blame Tim Tebow for the MEDIA hype.
Umm, what about his SB commercial last year? Every time he opens his mouth it's promoting Jesus.
WOW! This Super Bowl ad? How do you think this promotes Jesus? Did Tebow mention Jesus here? Did he promote Christianity here? Do you think all other religions have opposing views? The ad is about abortion! C'mon JAR!

Yeah and the ad is directly related to his religion.

Focus on the Family (FOTF, or FotF) is an American evangelical Christian tax-exempt non-profit organization founded in 1977 by psychologist James Dobson, and is based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Focus on the Family is one of a number of evangelical parachurch organizations that rose to prominence in the 1980s. A component of the American Christian right, it is active in promoting interdenominational work toward its views on social conservative public policy. Focus on the Family is also currently the primary sponsor for Phil Vischer's JellyTelly.

Yea, OK, IF you support women's freedom of choice or abortion, then I can see you being offended by that ad. But, you were obviously offended because Tim Tebow was in that ad. But, hey, you have that right! This is America. No problem. Read what I highlighted in your quote of Focus on the Family. That is what Tebow was promoting in the ad. He was not ramming his religion in your face. Ah, it is not worth arguing the point with you....

That ad pretty much sums up why some peole can't stand Tebow. Has there ever been a college player in a SB ad before playing one down in the NFL?

Good point. Jealousy and envy make people do weird things...so I guess that could be why some people resent him.

Re: Uh-Oh! Remember my thoughts on Pouncey?

so people have a problem with Tebow because he does a quick prayer that the media has to catch on tape and before every interview he thanks Jesus for a few seconds. But I guess it is okay when Troy does the sign of the cross 500 times a game only because he is a Steeler.

Tebow is a guy that yes is quite corny at times, but the man has morals, he does mission trips in the offseason, is quite active with charities and community programs, but people are insulted by him because he thanks Jesus Christ before interviews. WOW!!

I guess listening to Pacman Jones who punches women in the face, shoots bodyguards and gets arrested at the drop of a hate is much more less annoying than hearing about Tebow.

I just cannot believe there is so much hate for a guy that does things the right way, meanwhile people who break the law and get chance after chance are the ones that fans cheer for, give me a break! I never really cared about Tebow, but I have turned into a fan with all the crap he gets for simply taking a knee and praying, and the whole "he knows he is on camera, and that is why he is doing it" is complete garbage, he may know he is on camera, but he has always done this, hate someone that is an idiot, not someone who has never hurt a fly.

But because Pouncey tweets some 'words' not approved by some people that makes him a thug or a non-team player? Pouncey has done a lot too for charities, etc and just because he tweets *uck and not Jesus doesn't make him out to be what the start of this thread was all about.

CRIKEY!

Ok, everyone take 1 step back for a second. The longer this debate goes, the further from the point being made we get.

Pouncey's 'tweet' & Tebow's "Tebowing" are NOT related messeges.

That was not, will not be, and never was the point.

The point was, in it's simplest terms, that Pouncey's 'tweet', as dumb as it may be, was not made as a public specticle, it was made on a forum of people who CHOOSE to follow his thoughts. Being offended by Pouncey promoting a rapper directly after a game IS THE ISSUE. These people that took offense to Pouncey's tweet then attacked him for not being "Steeler enough" & being upset enough about the loss to only tweet about a football related topic. THE ISSUE HERE IS THIS- These fans chose to attack Pouncey for doing what they FOLLOWED him for- his thoughts. When his thoughts did not coincide with the fans thoughts- they got up him, and Pouncey reacted.

The comparison to Tebow is about the difference between CHOOSING to follow a person's opinion, and having a person's opinion FORCED upon you.

Chadman turns the football on to watch- FOOTBALL.

Chadman does not turn the football on to see athletes praising their chosen deity.

RELIGION IS NOT FOOTBALL, and has NO PLACE being promoted there.

TWEETING is about OPINIONS, and even if you disagree with Pouncey's, he put them in the PROPER PLACE.

JAR etc are offended NOT BY THE CHRISTIAN MESSEGE, but by the fact that it is forced upon regular football watchers, in a forum that has NOTHING to do with Religion.

If you don't believe that Tebow doesn't understand the exposure he gets for his beliefs, doesn't see the circus that follows his every "Tebowing" moment, your head is in the sand. He MUST know that he is spreading "the word of God" every time he gets down on that damn knee of his.

Is the messege bad? For a lot of people, the answer is a resounding no. And fair enough. But for some people, his actions fly in the face of their own beliefs. It CAN be offensive to have this very pro-christianity schtick being delivered in a place that people go to for very different reasons- in this case, football.

Consider, if you will, how offended you may have been if players with Muslim beliefs had started praising Allah in football interviews after 9/11.

Football is simply not the forum for Religious commentry, even when it's done with good intentions.

Religion is a PERSONAL belief.

Now, if Tebow only posted his praise & thanks to God on Twitter, we wouldn't have this problem, would we?

Getting upset with Pouncey for making comments on his twitter page that you don't agree with is...well, unfair.

Getting upset with Tebow for being Christian is unfair too.

But just like having the Jehovah's Witnesses knock on your door at 8 on a Sunday morning to spread their word, having Tebow praising God & Jesus during a football game is an invasion of a person's personal 'opinion/belief space', and should be considered unfair too.

Perhaps even..... offensive?

Now- we are ALL Steelers fans- please don't let a Tim Tebow religious rant be a reason to not get along. This off-season is going to be hard enough as it is....

The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off, why should I?

Light up the darkness.

Like I said, over a weekend, I'd have to spend close to a $1,000+ to watch the Steelers play in person. It's us fans that pay for Pouncey's salary. Without the fans, there is no team or league. Then, Pouncey would be a working a "regular" job. The same "regular" type of job and "regular" person that he would likely be if it wasn't for us fans. The same "regular" person that he is being condescending towards.

Once again...well done Chadman.

Consider, if you will, how offended you may have been if players with Muslim beliefs had started praising Allah in football interviews after 9/11.
Very good point, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf comes to mind, not going to get into it, for those who don't know the controversy, Google him.

Yea, but Pouncey telling someone on tweeter that he is better than them and how his life is so much better is a little upsetting to say the least. This new technology crap is annoying, people take it so seriously, facebook, tweeter, non stop texting from 7 year olds all the way to 50 year olds just gets annoying. I remember when I used to call my buddies to make up plans, or I would talk to people face to face and not on the computer.
Anyway, people who are insulted by Tebow are the same people that you cannot say "Merry Christmas" to, or the same people who want "God" to be taken away from the pledge.

Off topic but "Merry Christmas", I can understand ..... but "God" from the pledge... please! People that make that argument are a complete joke.
