I don't have or need an excuse....Nor do I have a hard on for him...like some.

He is definitely slowing down..he is in his 13th season...and holds the majority of Steeler records.

He is a possession receiver at this point in his career, but still has more yards then the stonio....

    Dismissed...

Tone missed 4 games. Hines should have more yards.

Terrific. Hines has 30 more yards than Tone despite playing four more games.

          Yay.

It's really gotten to this? We need to micro-anylise the effectivness of a 13 year Vet WR on a team with emerging WR talent?

            To what point?

Ok- we get it- Hines is having a 'down' year & is unlikely to get better.

What are you suggesting? Dump Hines? Remove him from the roster mid-season? Or just don't bring him back next season? Guess what- if there's no football next season, you might not have to see Hines beyond 2011.

If that makes you happy- more power to you. Some Pittsburgh fans may be a little more forgiving for a guy that's performed so well for so long. But, this is the "Not For Long" league- we should probably just shoot him & be done with it.

              Seriously?

Stonio is 10 years the younger...and if he wouldn't have failed his second drug test he wouldn't have missed those 4 games and probably would still be a Steeler...

My point is that Hines is no where near as bad as you make him out to be...but your love affair with Hines is no secret on the forum.

And then trade ARE for Randy Moss & sign Antonio Bryant..

I'm suggesting a three wide base offense to keep guys like Sanders and Brown on the field more than the absurd two TE set.

If they insist on the two TE sets? I use Sanders and Wallace as the #1-#2 WRs.

Both Crash & Fin are right, but neither have it all. Hines is slowing down, but he's still one tough SOB who makes the tough catch & is an emotional leader. But to Fin's point...this illustrates why BA has to go - a demonstrated inability to correctly utilize his players & a stubborn reluctance to adjust his gameplan. To wit...
                        - You're asking Moore to push the pile?...he dances too much & goes down easy...why is he carrying the ball in that situation?
                        - Redman is a beast, who runs hard & grinds out yards after contact...why isn't he carrying the ball in that situation?
                        - Hines needs to run different routes to maximize his current skill-set.
                        - Spaeth is a primary target now that Heath is down? Are you kidding me?
                        - The broken record...why do you continue to call slow developing pass routes when your line sucks?!?
                        - We have the most feared speed WR in the game right now...are you telling me that you can't find better ways to get him open or take advantage of the holes he creates?

We could spend days debating the individual suspect playcalls alone, but crap like this is why he has to go.

IMHO, Moore should see the field less and Redman more.

                              - Redman is a beast, who runs hard & grinds out yards after contact...why isn't he carrying the ball in that situation?

                              See above copmment

                              - Hines needs to run different routes to maximize his current skill-set.

I don't know if different routes will help or not. He did have two big catches in this game. So, he isn't getting 100 yards per, he still makes big plays.

                              - Spaeth is a primary target now that Heath is down? Are you kidding me?

Maybe Heath doesn't get open as often as you think. Almost every time Spaeth was targeted he was the 3rd or 4th option on the play. He was never (maybe once he was) the primary or secondary target. Ben was picking him out after surveying the field.

                              - The broken record...why do you continue to call slow developing pass routes when your line sucks?!?

The offensive line had a good night in the run game ad the passing game; I'm not sure this is a valid beef.

                              - We have the most feared speed WR in the game right now...are you telling me that you can't find better ways to get him open or take advantage of the holes he creates?

I couldn't agree more. The Steelers need to find a way to get the ball into his hands 3 or 4 more times per game.

We could spend days debating the individual suspect playcalls alone, but crap like this is why he has to go.

One questionable call and even at that, with Scott completely missing a block any play was doomed. At least, if it had been a pass play, Ben would have had a chance to shrug Taylor off, otherwise, the whiff by Scott doomed any play. For the record I don't like the play call at all.

I thought BA called a good enough game today. He took some pressure off the line. And had Mendy running as good as we've seen him. Ben had time to make plays and little pressure.

My biggest problem is why isn't Mendy in the game at the end when the game is on the line. He was running great all day.
