    whats Kimo doing these days.

back to the point. its no coincidence that smith being out, in those games the defnese has looked average.

late in the year and playoofs vs. jax.
last year 2nd half compared to first half when he was healthy.

dont think its a coincidence in the 1 year out of the last 4 he stayed healthy we won the SB and had a record breaking defense.

hopefully hood is ready to step up... looks like he gets pushed around a lil too much right now

I read a few days ago Ziggy has been nursing a bad ankle for weeks. So he's not full speed. Looks like it will be harder for it to heal now, he's got to step up.

We got our "6-PACK" - time to work on a CASE!

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!

OK lets focus on the factor that you think Smith is the past two years. Explain.

What has he done the past two years? Not 4 years ago. The past 2. I say he has missed 20 total games. And you say.....
Last year, the embarrassing 5 game losing streak in which our defense seemed incapable of holding a late lead to anyone occurred with Smith on the sidelines. So far this season, with Smith back in the lineup the Falcons score 9, the Titans score 11, the Bucs score 13, the Ravens score 17, and the Browns score 10, and Michael Turner, Chris Johnson, Cadillac Williams, Ray Rice, and Peyton Hillis were all bottled up by a stifling defense spearheaded by old man Smith. I sure as hell hope the triceps tear is a minor one and not something that is season-ending and possibly career-ending. I sure would hate to lose this "non-factor" who also happens to be an all-time great 3-4 DE.

You are not comparing Apples to Apples. That 5 game losing streak also included not having Troy Polamalu...arguably the best defensive player in the NFL.

          This wont be the same.[/quote:30bvsamp]

          $$$

I think the heat and having Woodley AND Smith out played a role in us looking a little weak late today. But, Smith being gone is not a deal breaker for us. I believe Hood will prove more than capable.

            Smith apparently out for season
            Sunday, October 24, 2010
            By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- Steelers defensive end Aaron Smith, who missed 11 games in 2009 with a torn rotator cuff, left today's game with a torn left triceps, and it appeared his season was over.

Coach Mike Tomlin revealed the extent of the injury, which occurred early in the third quarter, and said, "it is not good."

Linebacker James Farrior, the defensive captain, called the injury to Smith "devastating."

"It's heartbreaking to see a guy worked so hard to get back and have an injury like this," Farrior said. "I know he's devastated, I'm devastated and I'm sure everybody else is. To see a guy come out and just do everything right and get himself back to where he needs to be and have something like this happen is definitely frustrating."

Smith, 34, saw his 2007 season end with a torn bicep muscle in his right arm late in the year. He returned to have a Pro Bowl season in 2008.

                Re: Smith: Torn Triceps muscle

Well, we're about to find out what Aaron Smith means to this defense. all the other pieces are there and they're healthy. The Steelers are 5-1, giving up 60 yards per game rushing and about 13 points a game. Let's see where we're at while Aaron is out injured.

Lets hope it's something he can come back from. I have an idea what's going to happen to the defense in his absence.

                    I think Aaron is done...

this will be the 3rd season ending injury in 4 years... all arm injuries too.

AS has been great for us but honestly... it's getting old (no pun) watching him stand on the sideline while Steeler fans gush over how much we need him. Keisel jokes all the time about the DL's age but here we are in week 6 and AS is gone for the year and Keisel is gimpy.... is Hoke out too?

you can only push your body so far and I think Smiths arms are telling him they can't go any further.

Cheers AS... while the league didn't give you love.... the Steeler faithful have. Enjoy the ride because I think this is the last go round.

This isn't even close to being good news. Smitty is an animal and no one else on our current roster compares to the level of talent he brings to the table. I might not be as concerned about losing Smitty since Ziggy has a year under his belt. OTOH, he has his own issues, injury-wise, so we'll see how it goes with him. So long as we don't have a sudden rash of injuries, the loss of Smitty will be mitigated somewhat. But, that is always something that shouldn't be counted on in today's NFL.

                        umm... no.

Smith is great at what he does but I think Steeler fans exaggerate a little because they think he deserves more shine.

Smith plays a position that is essential to our LB's making plays... but more talent than anyone else on our team? Not sure about that...

The NT is the key to any successful 3-4.... Hampton is still the unsung hero of our interior. It's 11 players though... AS will be missed.. but we have said that a lot lately.

Either way, dizz, this is a loss we don't really want or need. Hopefully, he's the only one this critically hurt this season.

He is no longer dependable to stay healthy. Fathertime is catching up with him.

                              Re: A. Smith:

In 2007, his right biceps muscle was torn in December. The team went 1-2 down the stretch and lost its wild-card playoff game to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Last season, his right rotator cuff was torn in October. The team went 6-5 without him and missed the playoffs.

This is not a good trend.

By the way, the Steelers won the Super Bowl in '08 when Smith stayed healthy and played in every game.

And it's not just his play on the field. Listen to the other Steelers talk about him and there is reverence in thier voices. He's one of the major leaders on this team on the field and off. Huge loss!

What is with everyone asking if Hoke is out still? Hoke played quite a bit. He even played with Hampton in some pass D sets.
Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.
