OK lets focus on the factor that you think Smith is the past two years. Explain.

What has he done the past two years? Not 4 years ago. The past 2. I say he has missed 20 total games. And you say.....

One of the first plays of this game Smith was in the backfield of Miami. Didn't get a sack, but got pressure. He was dominant in this game, until he went down. I still think our D was hurt more last year by his loss, than the loss of Troy. This is a HUGE loss for us.

Yup. He's is as dominant as 3-4 DEs get when he is healthy. When he is gone we miss him and that's the point...he's gone and we will miss him.

Free agent pickings are slim. Some of the names out there include:

Travis Kirshke (I believe he is retired)
          Ian Scott
          Kendrick Clancy
Ryan Denney (a bit undersized, but I remember the Steelers being interested in him coming out of college
Jeff Zgonina (I'd assume he's retired)
          Paul Spicer
Sonny Harris (recently released from Bills practice squad)

Huge loss for us,... as a player of Aaron's caliber is not easily replaced by any means. We better hope Hood is even 80 percent of the all pro caliber player that many of the Nation have claimed him to be. But even if not,..i think we still have enough on D not to tank the way we did last year.

Oh,...and not to think too far ahead but uuuuuh,... Steven Paea out of Oregon State is looking pretty interesting to me right now.

Wrong, the start of this season and THIS game he's been a dominant 3-4 DE. He's been the best D lineman we've had this year. I'd rather lose Keisel or Hampton for the year than Smith. He's that important .

But by seasons end, like last year, your statement will be far from reality. Sorry. I am a Steeler fan and a huge Aaron Smith fan too, but I can see reality.

Last year, the embarrassing 5 game losing streak in which our defense seemed incapable of holding a late lead to anyone occurred with Smith on the sidelines. So far this season, with Smith back in the lineup the Falcons score 9, the Titans score 11, the Bucs score 13, the Ravens score 17, and the Browns score 10, and Michael Turner, Chris Johnson, Cadillac Williams, Ray Rice, and Peyton Hillis were all bottled up by a stifling defense spearheaded by old man Smith. I sure as hell hope the triceps tear is a minor one and not something that is season-ending and possibly career-ending. I sure would hate to lose this "non-factor" who also happens to be an all-time great 3-4 DE.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Legend has it that we were ready to take Denney in the second round of that 2002 draft, but the Bills jumped ahead of us, so we settled for Antwaan Randle El instead. In our evaluations of Denney, we also noticed another DL prospect on that BYU defense, and we took him later in that draft in the 7th round...Brett Keisel. I think we made out okay in those respects. It would be interesting to have Keisel, Hoke, and Denney together on the same DL again, since they all played together for the Cougars in 2001.

You are not comparing Apples to Apples. That 5 game losing streak also included not having Troy Polamalu...arguably the best defensive player in the NFL.

                          This wont be the same.
