The Steelers’ offensive line got some great news this morning when Ramon Foster decided to sign his restricted free-agent tender. He’ll make $ 1.26 mil this season and become an unrestricted free agent next offseason, but we’re hoping the Steelers can keep him in the Burgh for a while.
This was huge news because Foster is the first tenderized RFA to sign this offseason, and if he had gone somewhere else, the Steelers would have gotten absolutely nothing in return since Foster was undrafted and the Steelers slapped him with a low tender. Apparently some other teams had some interest but no offers came in so Foster decided to stay put.
After the year he had last year, there’s no reason to think that Foster won’t be the starting right guard this season – he definitely earned that spot last year while his linemates were falling around him. With Foster locked up, the offensive line should feature Marcus Gilbert and Willie Colon at tackle, Maurkice Pouncey at center, Foster at right guard, and either Doug Legursky or an early draft pick at left guard…if they all stay healthy…for once.
Mike Wallace, Keenan Lewis, Ryan Mundy, David Johnson and Legursky are the other tenderized RFA’s that the Steelers are still waiting on. Hopefully, they start to follow in Foster’s footsteps.
