I know we all talk about how Hines Ward is a rare commodity given he is very likely to both start and finish his career with the Steelers.
But how about Hampton? The Steelers don't give many extensions to players over 30. Hampton has been productive throughout his career and has been a team player. And it's likely that Hampton, like Ward is going to start and end his career with the Black 'N Gold. Hampton could have held out or waited until the Wilfork signing to try to get more money but he didn't. Or he could have signed a likely monsterous deal with someone else given next years no-cap situation and still would have been signed by someone else the following year.
I know sometimes Hampton doesn't necessarily "say" the right things (i.e. the franchise tag statement) or "do" the right things (i.e. the training camp overweight issues) but he always comes to play and has anchored a VERY successful 3-4 defense for close to a decade.
