I was thinking either - Hines, Troy....or the best might be Wood - which is funny considering the original is Shaft.

Re: Food For Thought - Oakland Raiders

Since the Raiders loss I really have been too depressed to think about making food - eating it...no problem - making it another story. This week I decided to look up something with a key ingredient of Brown Mustard since we're playing the Browns again - and I found a double Deviled Egg recipe that caught my attention ---- Double BeDeviled is just how I think the Steelers look right now. Hopefully tonight we'll get off of that horrible losing streak!

      Double Deviled Eggs

      Ingredients

      12 eggs
1 (4.5 ounce) can deviled ham
      1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard
      1/4 cup mayonnaise
      1 pinch black pepper
      24 slices black olives
      Paprika for sprinkling

      Directions

Place egg in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil and immediately remove from heat. Cover and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water, cool, and peel.

Cut eggs in half lengthwise, place the yolks into a mixing bowl, and set the whites aside. Mash the yolks with the deviled ham, mustard, mayonnaise, and black pepper. Spoon or pipe filling into egg white halves. Garnish each deviled egg with an olive slice, then sprinkle with paprika.

***Chef's Option - Ask one of your guests / family members to stand up and protect your now 2nd or 3rd new plasma TV in the past couple weeks from thrown objects. Each guest or member will act like a Goalie (Pens gear prefered) protecting the new TV. The guest who protects against the Fourth Quarter and / or most Kickoff Coverage should receive a special prize.

Re: Food For Thought - Cleveland Browns

Well if you're playing the Packers you know that Cheese is going to have to be the marquee player in any dish - and after a little thought I decided that Broccoli Cheese Soup (which should actually have the Packers colors of Green and Yellow in it) would be the best option.

On top of that Soup is kind of soul food - and these are currently the times (or Steeler Football) that will try a man's soul.

        Soup ala Green Bay

        Ingredients

        1/2 cup butter
        1 onion, chopped
1 (16 ounce) package frozen chopped broccoli
4 (14.5 ounce) cans chicken broth
1 (1 pound) loaf processed cheese food, cubed
        2 cups milk
        1 tablespoon garlic powder
        2/3 cup cornstarch
        1 cup water

        Directions

In a stockpot, melt butter over medium heat. Cook onion in butter until softened. Stir in broccoli, and cover with chicken broth.

Simmer until broccoli is tender, 10 to 15 minutes.

Reduce heat, and stir in cheese cubes until melted. Mix in milk and garlic powder.

In a small bowl, stir cornstarch into water until dissolved. Stir into soup; cook, stirring frequently, until thick.

**Chef's option -- bring paper and pens/pencils/crayons - to the table before kickoff and have everybody write a letter to Santa regarding what the Steelers need for Christmas.

            Stlrz D -

It's funny I was pretty close to adding a Beer Cheese Soup - but I figured Beer had played too much of a factor in the other recipes - so it might be best to go a different route.

But I'll give your soup a spin after the holidays!

Re: Food For Thought - Green Bay Packers

Okay so due to an extraordinarily slow computer - I missed FFT last weekend - it's a very long story not worth hearing and certainly not worth thinking about. So since I missed last weekend - I'm going to throw two recipes out there this weekend and focus the meals on two teams we need to see lose - Jets and Texans.

First for the Jets I'm going to focus on a Gameday Dip that just can't be beat. It's main ingredients are green (Chilies and Jalapenos) so enjoy with caution.

                  Miracle Dip

                  Ingredients:

                  1 tablespoon olive oil
                  1 clove garlic, minced
                  1 onion, chopped
1 (11 ounce) can chopped jalapeno peppers
1 (15 ounce) can black beans with green chilies, drained
1 (10 ounce) can diced tomatoes with green chilies, drained
1 (15 ounce) jar nacho cheese dip

                  Directions:

Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; cook and stir until onion is translucent, about 5 minutes. Pour in the jalapenos, black beans, diced tomatoes with green chilies and cheese dip. Heat through, stirring to blend as needed. Serve hot.

When it comes to the Texans how could you not think of Steak? This recipe has one added bonus that if the Steelers don't make the playoffs you can just forget the steaks and focus on the rest of the Bourbon that you "had" to buy as an ingredient for this recipe.

N.Y. Brown Suger Stripper Steak - (ala Rolling Stones "How come you taste so good!)

                  Ingredients:

2 (6 ounce) boneless New York strip steaks
                  3 cups bourbon whiskey
                  1 cup dark brown sugar

                  Directions:

Gently tenderize steaks with a meat mallet. With a sharp knife, lightly score the meat on one side diagonally. Place steaks in a casserole dish, scored side up, and pour bourbon over them. Rub the brown sugar evenly over each steak. Marinate in refrigerator for 1 to 3 hours.

Preheat grill to high heat, and lightly oil grate.
Place the steaks on the hot grill, with the sugar side down.

Let cook until sugar has caramelized, 3 to 5 minutes, then flip steaks, and finish cooking to desired doneness.

Lonbull--enjoy reading all your recipes. Don't like to cook; and since single, don't have to too much. Thanks for providing this as it's interesting what you come up with.
