    I think Essex would've taken over anyhow...I don't think it's too concerning.
ours is not to wonder why just invert and multiply...

Anyone a big fan of Stapleton?

Replacing Kendall was like Tommy Maddox replacing Kordell Stewart for me.

I loved the move at first.

But then realized Tommy wasn't the QB I thought he could be. He ran into the injury and whatnot, and no disrespect to Maddox who I loved.

Not disrespect to Stapleton either, but I believe someone has got to be an upgrade.

I've read that Stapelton is walking around without a brace or crutches, which hopefully indicates that the injury isn't too bad. I've also read that with Hartwig out as well, Legursky is the guy getting reps at center, not Shipley, and that Legursky has looked ok.

Ditto that !!! I think is the weakest link on the OL. May be I fell for the BS of the press saying that, that this line can become like the Giants' OL with cohessivness and time.

I don't know about you, but I loooking to hear more of Urbeick (sp) and more of that Foster kid.

I thought stapleton played well up to SB43 where darnell dockett ate him up. he can be replaced.

Stapleton was just way too light by the end of the year. It really contributed to him getting pushed back during the last half of the season.

Geez, wasn't he an undrafted or late pick as a rookie last season. Seems he'd get a 'bit' of slack here. Everyone is so eager for Essex, but what has he done in a longer career, albeit no much longer. I'm all for competition, but just taking door #2 is not the answer unless you have a good idea what you are gonna get.

Stapelton was undrafted, and last year was his second year. He did wear down as the year went on, and ultimately I think that he will be better suited as an swing guy on the interior of the line. He does seem pretty mobile, so I can also see center as a possibility for him.

Let me say that I'm not at all eager for Essex. If he is truly an upgrade, that is sad for Stapelton. I'm hoping that Urbick develops and takes over by mid-season.

Well, if this is serious, which I hope it isn't, Simmons is still in Pittsburgh and is healthy again. He could come back for depth and possibly win the job again.

Urbik is looking like he could be finding a seat on the practice squad- AT BEST. He isn't having a good camp so far. They would need to bring in a vet and someone who knows the system IF Stapleton went down.

In order to put Urbik on the practice squad, they would have to cut him. If that happened, there is no way he would pass through waivers. I can't remember a Steeler 3rd round pick (and Urbik was early 3rd) to be cut during his rookie camp. Fred Gibson and Danny Farmer were two WR's who were 4th round picks that were cut as rookies.

Pre-draft evaluation from the Senior Bowl showed that Urbik tends to struggle in one-on-one drills, but in actual game situations, he more than holds his own. You haven't even seen him in a preseason game yet, and you are already stating that his best case scenario is the practice squad. That is grade A overreaction from a handful of training camp reports (which contradict each other, by the way...some bloggers stated that Ziggy dominanted Urbik head-to-head, but others say Urbik won 4 of 6 of their matchups with each other).
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

It's amazing how some fans STILL overreact to early training camp info. ESPECIALLY from rookies. Have none of you learned your lessons from Troy P, Santonio, LT? Now you want to put a 3rd rd pick on the practice squad? Scary.

Unless an injury happens, I doubt they would have a player take over by mid-season on the Oline. I can't remember something like that happening on a SB caliber team. If they were rebuilding, I would be inclined to agree with you.

One good thing about this situation is they can have someone else take reps. If the injury is serious, it hurts the depth a long the Oline.

Actually, back in 1995, the Steelers drafted Brenden Stai in the 3rd round, and before the end of the year, they plugged him in at RG. So it is possible...

We'll see how good he is when the preseason games start. As an x OLman, if you can't handle the one on ones especially against another rookie, you've got a long road to haul. His problems could just be a mental thing. Tomlin getting in his face early won't help him. Maybe LZ can help him out with some technique.

Not looking good so far for the 3rd rounder. I'll check him out for myself next tuesday.
