OFF-SEASON ACTIVITY: Build roster w/ 1 player from each team

Here is an interesting off-season exercise in case anyone is interested:

If you could take one and only one guy from each team (except for our Steelers...we will leave them out of this) to build a team, who would you take? Come up with a starting lineup on each side of the ball (your offense should have two wideouts, one tight end, one fullback, and one running back...your defense can be either a 3-4 or a 4-3, so that will determine how many DT's and ILB's you choose, and also what type of DE's and OLB's will be best for your particular defense). Add a kicker, punter, kick returner, punt returner, long snapper, and a special teams captain for your coverage units. Also, pick a head coach, offensive coordinator, and defensive coordinator. That's 31 spots...one for each team (again, no Steelers). Remember, you are building a team, so focus on guys that are young and will be around for a while. Although Walter Jones has had the more impressive career, he is nearing the end, so you may prefer Joe Thomas as a left tackle, since he should be around for the next decade or more. Choose wisely...if you take LeRon McClain to be your fullback, that means that you cannot have Ed Reed as your free safety. For the Patriots, you might take Brady or Moss or Seymour or Mayo or Belichick. Hmmm...

I'm interested to see what you folks might come up with. I'll try to post mine later this afternoon. I've got to think about some things first...
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I'd suggest instead of a long-snapper to include a 3rd wr and instead of a special teams captain, you include a nickelback DB. That's still 31 spots and includes players who may affect the outcome of a game more than a long-snapper (last year's Giants game notwithstanding).

Good exercise, though. Can I put Larry Foote in as the Lions player?

Re: OFF-SEASON ACTIVITY: Build roster w/ 1 player from each team

Since there are sucky teams without any real elite players, we need to fill spots like kicker, punter, long snapper, special teams guy, etc. just as a means of picking a player from those teams, so I will stick with my original format for now (but after posting my original team, I may consider how I might change things if we incorporated another WR and DB instead of LS and ST...that could take a little longer, since I would have to shuffle things around a bit).

      Anyway, here is my roster:

Man.. this will be a good exercise.

Observations.... You went YOUNG on the OL.

I cry foul on Reggie Bush as the PR ... he can be used as a PR, RB, WR, etc....

I think we should be able to leave the Stains off our list as well.

Doesn't Ngata play NT in a 3-4? How do you project him to DE?

Re: OFF-SEASON ACTIVITY: Build roster w/ 1 player from each team

Reggie returned 20 punts last season and took 3 of them to the house. That's a sick percentage. That qualifies for me.

Okay, I decided to do another, this time with Acero's suggestion to eliminate the long snapper and special teams specialist in favor of another WR and DB. And to change things up a bit, I switched from a 3-4 to a 4-3. This was tough...I had wholesale changes in my front 7 (only Pat Willis survived the transition), although much of my offense is the same (exact same o-line, starting RB, starting WR's) but there was a major switch under center (going young...real young...but the kid was definitely impressive as a rook). With the defensive philosophy change, I had to eliminate Capers and replace him with Jim Johnson (here's hoping he comes back from cancer soon...he's to the 4-3 what LeBeau is to the 3-4 right now). I even picked 2 rookies this time around in my effort to get younger (by picking the first linebacker and the first punter taken in the most recent draft). Since I have been focusing on the kinds of players that can excel in a 3-4 for so long, it was difficult to think of players who could excel as OLB's in a 4-3 (Derrick Brooks is the prototype, but he appear to be done...Curry appears to have all the tools so he could be a reasonable enough risk for me to take). And as for my coach, ahem, well, I feel dirty even typing it, but he did win 3 Super Bowls (with the assistance of Sex, Lies, Ernie Adams, and Videotape).

              Anyway, here we go again:

When the Ravens run a 3-4, they usually use Kelly Gregg (when healthy) at the nose, and put Ngata as a 3-4 DE. Ngata's a beast...he could be successful anywhere along the line. He's their best player in my opinion (not Lewis or Reed or Suggs or Flacco).

Yeah, what he said! Speaking of playing players out of position, I originally thought about the aging Brian Waters as my LG since he has been so good there for so long, but I went with his much younger teammate Albert instead even though he plays LT for the Chiefs, because he played LG at Virginia next to LT Eugene Monroe.

Aaron Curry was drafted by Seattle, not Detroit, so I will have to change your long snapper from "Whoever Seattle has" to "Whoever Detroit has" (which appears to be "Don Muhlbach")
