      Marvel Smith - T Feb. 27 - 7:28 pm et

The Raiders are reportedly interested in free agent OTs Marvel Smith and Khalif Barnes.
Mario Henderson may not be ready at left tackle, and Cornell Green is no great shakes at right tackle. The Raiders want to sign one veteran free agent tackle and possibly add another in the draft.

I would take Chris Carr.....I like the dude! He is a decent corner and he would fill a nice hole that we have now that BMac is about to exit stage left....which in all actuality I totally understand him going out and getting the big cash!

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Did the Steelers meet with CB Carr? Have they met with anyone at all? I thought I also heard they might be interested in Leigh Bodden.

Anthony Smith - DB Mar. 5 - 1:42 pm et

The Packers are interested in free agent S Anthony Smith, according to the National Football Post.
The report states that Green Bay may "extend Smith an offer sheet." He was not tendered as a restricted free agent by the Steelers, however, so no offer sheet is needed. The former third-round pick is an unrestricted free agent.

I heard that we had expressed an early interest in Carr, but I haven't heard anything recently...I wonder if the interest picks up now that McFadden is officially gone? The only outside player to actually visit with the Steelers, so far, is Joey Galloway, I believe. Nate leaves, we bring in a possible replacement WR a few days later. Perhaps now that McFadden is gone, we will consider bringing in a possible replacement CB or two a few days later.

Titans cornerback to visit Steelers tomorrow
                            Tuesday, March 10, 2009
                            By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Tennessee Titans cornerback Chris Carr, who is one of the top return specialists in the American Football Conference, will visit with the Steelers tomorrow -- the second unrestricted free agent to interview on the South Side this week.

Carr was a backup with the Titans last season after spending the previous three seasons with the Oakland Raiders. He finished third in kick returns (28.1-yard avg.) and eighth in punt returns (10.1 avg.) in the AFC last season.

The Steelers are looking for an extra cornerback after losing Bryant McFadden to the Arizona Cardinals in free agency. Carr has also visited with the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions and has not ruled out returning to the Titans.

This is pretty interesting. I thought for sure we would sign him back on the squad, since we have no depth what so ever. He is a great reserve to have a proven veteran with some starting experience.

                                Could mean several things:

                                1) He over priced his value and we don't play that.
                                2) He is expendable meaning. Hills and Capri are more than capable in the eyes of the Staff.
                                3) We are going to sign another OL in FA.
                                4) We are going OL early and often in the draft.

Did Barnes sign with the Raiders or else where? Could his price of fallen now? Although some say he was horrid last year, I don't think his sub-par play is all his fault. That team lost both starting guards. Maybe a change of scenery would help.

Slid him in as a RT, Colon to RG, Stapleton back to reserve C & G.
                                or
                                Slid Barnes at RG.

Not to get ahead of myself, but that would make this OL to a very solid, deep, player flexible OL. He would be a good coner stone along with Kemo to start building 2010 OL when Starks, Colon, Hartwig are all FA again. And of course that is with out this years draft.

Help me out here the figures might be wrong. I am doing this from memory, but just over all picture.

With Colon, Kemo, and Starks signed, we spent a total of what? $15 M this year for 3 players. Add in the lump sum of Hatwig and Stapleton for a total budget on our OL equals $20M. Is there room in that budget to sign a better than average FA C/G/T?
