Exactly. This listing is mostly determined by how much income can be generated by a franchise which is based on the home market. Nothing to do with quality of the team or how attractive an offense is to watch.

You mentioned the Raiders move which is a GREAT example. Never been good lately, Raider fan base in Oakland at least has legacy. There is no way there are more hard core Raider fans in Vegas than Oakland.

But Vegas is a GREAT MOVE financially. Vegas is more populous than Oakland made up of transplants from all over the country. As a destination city fans of every team will fill their stadium and create a vacation of it. They could be a quarter filled with actual Raider fans and STILL sell out every week.

The Raiders could win SBs, be run perfectly in Oakland, and not make more than they do in Vegas.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

Not true at all, the valuation of teams isn't reliant on being in a large market to create income.

For example Phoenix is the 5th most populous city in the republic but the Cardinals are the 29th most valuable NFL team.

Jacksonville 10th in population is the 28th most valuable franchise.

The Chargers in the 2nd largest city are only 25th in team valuation.

Certainly being in a larger market helps valuation a little but if a brand is bad then you see the results of valuation with the samples I presented above.

That is why I say the Steelers need to be careful being in a smaller market and playing boring football with the same issues year after year. They are lessening the brand value and losing fans.

Don't become the next Rams, Chargers or Raiders.

This is not JUST about market SIZE. Vegas does not have a giant population but I described a number of factors that make it among the highest value teams that have NOTHING WHATSOEVER TO DO WITH actual football.

You tell me. Why are the Raiders a MUCH MORE valuable team than the EXTREMELY WELL RUN AND SUCCESSFUL Chiefs?

Also, if WE are a terrible run franchise why are we in the same neighborhood as the best team in the league?

The Steelers are in the same neighborhood as the Chiefs because that is what they are valued at. You would have to examine the metrics in each case. Plus a whole lot of other factors specific to the team etc.

Don't shoot the messenger. Speculate if you like but the valuations and the brand are what they are worth.

All I'm saying is the Steelers brand is getting worse according to Forbes and the trend needs to be reversed.

I have my own ideas on what the problems are and you'll have your own ideas but I'm telling you this stuff is really important.

We have enough samples with the St.Louis, San Diego and Oakland franchises of what can happen when valuations are low.

This thread isn't about hating on the Steelers. It's about having honest dialogue about the team's future stability. I'm not the bad guy you think I am in this case.
