we don?t need just a backup. We need the future. We need TWO QBs. One to be the backup. One lottery ticket for the future.

Kinda like the market for used Teslas.

He was elite in 2020 in Seattle until he broke his finger. Hasn't been the same since, but we pretty good last year -- top half of the league. We get that, maybe bumped up a few slots in the right scheme, and that might be enough.

Need him to avoid TOs, hit big plays, and be clutch. Doesn't have to lead the league in anything.

Good point Ovi. Howell was also touted in that class and a few posters wanted the Steelers to grab him in the draft.

Arthur Smith failed as a HC in ATL

and we all keep looking back 3 years ago hoping they could recreate that magic for us.

At some point, we have to start hiring people on the rise if we want this offense to be great and innovative.

I will also compare him to Mason going forward. See how Mason does to see if Russ plays better then that. And yes I know Mason is the back up right now. That could change this season. And I was not a Mason fan.
He proved something those last few games.

A lot of coaches fail as a head coach. Last good OC we had was a failed HC. I like former HC?s on staff so far.
proven to be good coaches here.

Damn right I want traded. They are treating him like Rudolph. No way I would stick with an organization who just lied to me.

Things change so I don?t blame our FO for grabbing Russ but if this is how you do it.. I?ll find another team to be a backup on.

Now we have Russ and who else? We screwed this up if Russ doesn?t knock it out the park. Guess we are now drafting Penix or.. gulp, Nix or JJ??? Maybe we gamble this year and draft a QB next year in the first?

If it works Khan is a genius. If not, oh boy?
At this point any of the draftable QB?s you mentioned have a good chance to match Kenny or be a upgrade.
He has not been good in a crap offense yes. But I mentioned before. Nothing stood out but his low int and 4th quarter come backs. And now wanting out to be a back up? No intestinal fortitude in a QB! Don?t want that. Need to be a dawg. This also points to young guys can be trouble. You stink in a crap offense come back prove you don?t stink in the next.

The Steelers gained 22 spots, but, my thoughts still stand that the Steelers got about as much as they were going to get for Pickett.

Reports that Kenny cancelled an out of town workout with WRs the day after we signed Wilson.

We complain that the Steelers hold on to high draft picks too long, then they move away from one quickly and we're complaining that they didn't get enough. They got what the market was offering. He wasn't going to lead the Steelers to a deep playoff run or Super Bowl while Watt and Minkah are in their prime. Khan made the moves he thinks will not only get the Steelers into the playoffs but possibly a run at the title.

Maybe it's worth remember that they didn't give up their 3rd. They traded down from teh 3rd to the 4th to get Kenny.

    Pick #20- Pickett (overdrafted)
Pick #74 - Ridder (considered a 'good value pick')
Pick #86 - Willis (story still being written)
Pick #94 - Corral (waived by CAR, went AWOL after signing with NE)
Pick #137 - Zappe (in and out under BB)

Don't forget Howell. Drafted by the Redskins in the 5th (#144) and after two years packed off to Seattle this off season

True, I didn't even look at where the others were drafted but Pickett would have fit in nicely with those selections. The Steelers over drafted Pickett and then got something for him before it was potentially too late.

Read what Bradshaw went through with Noll. Pickett would have had an emotional breakdown if he had to endure that.
No lies told here, Bradshaw was as tough mentally as he was physically, Pickett not so much of either.
