Damn right I want traded. They are treating him like Rudolph. No way I would stick with an organization who just lied to me.

Things change so I don?t blame our FO for grabbing Russ but if this is how you do it.. I?ll find another team to be a backup on.

Now we have Russ and who else? We screwed this up if Russ doesn?t knock it out the park. Guess we are now drafting Penix or.. gulp, Nix or JJ??? Maybe we gamble this year and draft a QB next year in the first?

If it works Khan is a genius. If not, oh boy?
It's the timing of Tomlin's comments to Pickett that make all the difference. This time of year NOTHING is static. It wasn't obvious early on that Wilson would sign with PIT. Thus Tomlin's comment that Pickett was QB1. But Tomlin also said he would have competition. Everything Tomlin said, when he said it, was likely truthful.

And riddle me this; if Tomlin is such a liar to players how is it he gets high marks from nearly everyone that plays for him?

The contrast between how Pickett handled himself compared to Rudolph is stark. If anything, Rudolph was treated worse but never took the low road.

How is Pickett taking the low road? Some of you clearly just really don't like him that much is obvious. The guy wants to start, Tomlin told him he wouldn't start after the team signed Wilson, something that Pickett apparently didn't even find out about until it was announced to the public. So he asked to be moved, it's that simple. If anything the team took the low road by trading him to the Eagles.

As far as why players like Tomlin, I honestly am starting to wonder that myself, it sure isn't because he puts them in the best position to succeed. I think because he's more of a pal than a coach.

        I agree with this.

Contradicts the above. Isn't Fields someone who failed elsewhere? I don't want a player that another team wants rid of. We already have one of those in Wilson.

Tomlin said Wilson would get 1st reps in OTAs. It's YOUR interpretation that Pickett wasn't going to start the season. So he asked to be moved, it's that simple. Why ask to be moved if you are backing up a 36 yr old QB? Sit and learn for a season (it didn't seem to hurt Jordan Love's game). If anything the team took the low road by trading him to the Eagles. Eagles reached out to the Steelers, not the other way around if you read the latest reports.

My big resistance on getting Fields is that 5th year option. But, is it possible to trade for him and get him to sign an extension with roster bonuses... i.e., look like a deal he'd want, but give the team a chance to feel him out on the cheap?
I believe the answer is yes.

Just depends on whether he's interested in doing so.

He could say no and go to UFA.

We'd for sure want to talk before trading him.

Since a deal hasn't happened, this could be part of it (him not being interested in a low cost extension instead of the 5th year option)

They are treating him like Rudolph because Rudolph ended up being the better option at the end of the year.

NC, that is not my interpretation, it is what is being reported "He was explicitly told by the Steelers Wilson would start", reneging on what was previously told to him, ie, he wanted to compete but was told nope. Also, why would Wilson sign with the Steelers at vet minimum if he wasn't told he would be the starter? Come on.

I agree that it was understandable that he was upset (when he got beat out by Mason, then when we brought in Wilson).

But the priority is to make the team better. And even if we get Wilson from 2 years ago, we probably did that.

But maybe idk, like I said I wouldn't be surprised if Eagles end up trading him to another team.
The Eagles were willing to give up the third round pick for a backup quarterback. Any team that is looking for a starting quarterback probably wasn't interested in Pickett. Pickett's market was as a backup. I think the Steelers did about as good as they were going to do with Pickett based off of his performance for 2 years. Pickett simply wasn't a quarterback you could lean on when needed or, at least, that's what it seemed like.

We complain that the Steelers hold on to high draft picks too long, then they move away from one quickly and we're complaining that they didn't get enough. They got what the market was offering. He wasn't going to lead the Steelers to a deep playoff run or Super Bowl while Watt and Minkah are in their prime. Khan made the moves he thinks will not only get the Steelers into the playoffs but possibly a run at the title.

Doubt Fields is in on any discussions with teams at this point. He's under contract and CHI is just playing the 'wait it out' game for some desperate team to pony up a king's ransom, or at least a 2nd rd pick. And after the Steelers kahn'd them with Claypool I'm sure they would like nothing better than to stick it back.

The one major red flag on Fields for me; he's the anti-Pickett in the 4th quarter and crunch time, 3 TDs and 10 INTs when trailing with <4 minutes. They will get Tomlin's panties in a bunch.

The situation changed. Once they got Wilson then the facts changed. If this indeed got Pickett's panties twisted then that is just further proof that he doesn't have the mental toughness to be a franchise QB.

Read what Bradshaw went through with Noll. Pickett would have had an emotional breakdown if he had to endure that.

No lies told here, Bradshaw was as tough mentally as he was physically, Pickett not so much of either.

Excellent points pappy. If you think about the 2022 draft class the pick in the 3rd (#98 ) is close to where the other QBs were drafted in 2022:

                              Pick #20- Pickett (overdrafted)
Pick #74 - Ridder (considered a 'good value pick')
Pick #86 - Willis (story still being written)
Pick #94 - Corral (waived by CAR, went AWOL after signing with NE)
Pick #137 - Zappe (in and out under BB)

True, I didn't even look at where the others were drafted but Pickett would have fit in nicely with those selections. The Steelers over drafted Pickett and then got something for him before it was potentially too late.
