Mason Rudolph, Titans agree to one-year deal

Mason Rudolph, Titans agree to one-year deal

    Published March 13, 2024

Quarterback Mason Rudolph will not be returning to Pittsburgh for 2024.

Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, Rudolph has agreed to a one-year deal with the Titans worth up to $3.62 million.

Rudolph, 28, had been with the Steelers since the club selected him in the third round of the 2018 draft. He took over as the team's starter late in the 2023 season after Kenny Pickett had suffered an ankle injury and Mitch Trubisky proved ineffective.

Pittsburgh won its last three games of the regular season went Rudolph at QB, earning a playoff berth as the No. 7 seed. But it was a short run, as the Steelers lost to the Bills in the wild card round.

Rudolph completed 55-of-74 passes for 719 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions during the 2023 regular season. He finished his first postseason start 22-of-39 for 229 yards with two touchdowns and one pick.

While Rudolph started eight games in 2019 when Ben Roethlisberger was sidelined by an elbow injury, it took until 2023 for him to start multiple games in a season again. He started one game in 2020 and another in 2021 before serving as Pittsburgh's third QB in 2022.

In 21 career games with 13 starts, Rudolph has completed 63.5 percent of his passes for 3,085 yards with 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He's compiled an 8-4-1 record as a starter.

Now headed to Tennessee, Rudolph is expected to serve as the backup to rising second-year quarterback Will Levis. The Titans also currently have 2022 third-round pick Malik Willis on their roster.

    Good for him!

    Happy to see it.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

Yes, I will definitely need to update that.

If I were him I would have tried to get to the Vikings. I know they signed Darnold, but we saw that before and it doesn't end well.

Now he is again a back up behind a second year player.

Oh boy this thread will turn into a crap show ASAP. Maybe Mason will come back next year. LOL.
Steelers still see KP as much better then Mason.

At the end of the day I don’t think Mason wanted to return.

He didn’t quite get 20 million either.

                One year, up to $3.62M.

Less than what I thought. I bet we would have offered more if we didn't pick up Wilson.

I wonder how much of that is unlikely to be earned bonuses. If it's less than $2M, I think we would have been able to match and only have the minimum count under the cap because he's been with us for 4+ years. But that would use up all the $1M free for 4+ year guys (don't know if that number went up). And the best we could offer him would be QB3 at this point.

Good luck Mason! Thanks for the last few games. The team was actually fun to watch on offense with you under center. Something we hadn't seen in a while.

Not sure there's evidence for that. Particularly since we were playing Mason when Kenny was ready to go. Including in a playoff game.

But I think it does show that we think Wilson is better than Mason.

I was sure Mason was leaving - but I had hoped he would have found a better fit and a better deal. I think he’s better than a one year deal, especially as the #2. So I guess I’m happy for him he gets a fresh start - but I was hoping he’d have a bigger payday.

Nice to see he signed somewhere but I always thought Steeler fans who thought Mason was going to get PAID were delusional.

Joel was off by just about $16.25 Mill.

Why rush back the recently injured starting QB. When the back up had the hot hand and was playing as good as the starter. And the locker room was buying in big time it sounded like. No brainedr imo.

I see KP and MR at this point about the same QB overall. Can KP grow some like it seems MR has is the question. Oh and how much better is he away from Crapada.
I also think if you overpaid MR he stays and they only do that if they don?t think KP is or will be better then him. But you might also be right. My perspective is just different.

Also possibly funny not funny did Mitch get paid more the MR as a back up? I will have to go look.

Good for him. Had a nice little run last year and got a good raise over his 1.2 salary in 23.

Good for him, not sure why some thought it was more likely he was re-signing with Steelers, the team clearly did not think he was starting material and MR had to have known that. Kind of a weird landing spot though, Titans have that youngster at QB who looked pretty good I believe.

Yeah but didn't you think he would only get vet minimum elsewhere? You were both wrong! lol
