When your team is weak at coaching and QB, the offense tends to look well, Cleveland at low tide.

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.
Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.
*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. *** -
The key to everything else is who we are going to get as the OC . That is the key to everything else afterwards working out. We need to focus in on that first and foremost. Tomlin isn’t going any place in 2024.Who knows at this point with Kenny. I see wide open WR's and he simply can't make the play. Then again, the OL offers him little protection most of the time, I just can't believe my eyes sometimes they are so bad. Then, they have a play or two that they will dominate. There's just no consistency. Kenny makes plays sometimes and others he's a dud. I don't see us wasting a 1st round pick on another QB this year. We need a center, we need a stud ILB. The secondary is not good. We need to quit spending money on retreads.
But above all, we need some freaking COACHING!Comment

This is what I think happens too....
I think Steelers will give him at least one more season with a new OC and see how it goes. The odds that he is actually a championship QB are low simply because there are barely any of those, even if Steelers spend a 1st round pick in 2024 on a QB odds are good that QB won't be one either.
Next offseason (not the one coming up) is a big one for Pickett because we'll have to decide on the 5th year option.
And there's really no argument for picking it up based on his play to date.
Hopefully that changes with a new system.
But my guess is that it's more likely that we'll be having similar discussions next season with some saying "how can we expect him to give us average results in his first year with a new OC?"
I hope that he proves me wrong.Comment

As much as I agree that the offensive system is awful, I also have the chicken or the egg question: Does the O look bad because of an over simplistic system, or is the system overly simple because the players (Pickett) can't handle anything more complex?Comment

Unless a new OC is going to be making the reads and throwing the passes, we can't expect a major improvements as long as KP is the QB. As many of us said when he was drafted...KP is at best Cousins/Carr. I don't think he is even capable of being what they are. Can win with guys like that but won't win because of them."My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

Until we see evidence to the contrary, I'm going with all of the above.Comment

I’m not thinking a successful OC is going to want to come here only to have Tomlin call the shots.
A great OC should know that he has a chance at getting a HC gig being successful and running things his way.
Working under Tomlin does not further your nfl career. How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?Comment

I don't want a great OC and it's unlikely to get one to just lateral to the Steelers.
I want the Steelers to hire an up and coming assistant from one of the better offenses in the league. Someone hungry and wanting to take the next step up.Comment

who then becomes a great OC
with you on this oneComment

Right. I said at best over a year ago his upside was Andy Dalton.Unless a new OC is going to be making the reads and throwing the passes, we can't expect a major improvements as long as KP is the QB. I just want to see him in a modern, forward thinking offense before moving on and the team investing in another 1st round QB, I'll even settle for a generic NFL offense with good coaching. I feel like everyone is just assuming the offense will be a departure and improvement next season but it hasn't really been one so far this year outside of the Bengals game. Lot of question marks with this team going forward. This is what I think happens too.
