because some teams have money to burn and are desperate. Carolina is a team who loves handing out bad contracts. Check Sam Darnold’s 5th year option being signed when it didn’t have to for recent screw ups.
and the next team can roll his current numbers into a new contract since its his last year.
Teams overpay for players all the time.Steelers 27

DJ's contract would be very easy on a new team, especially if traded after March 20.
If traded pre-March 20:
Steelers eat almost $6M cap hit, new team cap hit and cash outlay = $10M. If DJ does not break camp with new team then $0, just cost them whatever they traded.
If traded post-March 20:
Steelers eat almost $9M cap hit, new team cap hit and cash outlay = $7M. If DJ does not break camp with new team, again no cost, only the cost of what they trade.
If Steelers keep DJ cap hit almost $16M.Comment

Which team would want him and his contact? Easy said, nearly impossible to get done. This trade is a pipe dream. Don't get wrong. I love it if it happens.DJ's contract would be very easy on a new team, especially if traded after March 20.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

Really asking that after the CC trade??? No, not the same money involved but CC was also 1/10th the player DJ is.
No. 1 on the list is KC. Bet they would make a bid. Look what they did for Juju's game.Comment

I don't think we trade him in the offseason. I don't think we extend him either (next season is his last).
I think the problem with trading DJ is that we are already kind of thin at WR.
We probably need at least a slot next year (Austin has been OK, but could use an upgrade). Then if we get rid of Johnson, we essentially need two starting WRs. I don't think we do that in one off season.
I think we draft a WR early this draft (like we usually do). Then do the same next draft.
We at least start the season with Johnson next year. Maybe if whoever our early WR is looks great we can trade him. But probably he plays out his contract and walks.Comment

That's how Colbert used to operate. Khan man is more aggressive.I don't think we trade him in the offseason. I don't think we extend him either (next season is his last).

This.
Kenny could be outstanding, but if we can easily run for scores, Kenny might not get many Red zone attempts.sigpic
In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:
TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than CowherComment

And to be fair, Kenny has been pretty far from outstanding in the red zone to date in his career.
Hopefully being rid of Canada helps with that at least a little.Comment

Saw this:
Then a poster's comment:Kenny Pickett made history during the Pittsburgh Steelers' win over the Cincinnati Bengals this past Sunday. During Pittsburgh's 16-10 win, Pickett broke Ben Roethlisberger's franchise record for the most consecutive passes without an interception.
Pickett broke Roethlisberger's record when he threw his 208th pass without a pick. The former first-round pick has thrown just four interceptions this season and has not thrown one since Pittsburgh's Week 4 loss to Houston.
some hyperbole but still funnyNot that big of an accomplishment really. His accuracy is so bad, his passes usually aren't near anyone. Including the defenders.Comment

I love how all you people are writing a definitive narrative on DJ with six games and likely the playoffs still to go. You are all basically stating that it doesn't matter what he does the rest of the way, he is not worthy of keeping around.
I say that is foolish talk.
It may very well turn out to be true that his attitude continues, or he blows a few critical opportunities down the stretch and the team parts ways with him in the offseason. However, it might be true that he picks himself off the mat, gets his head on straight, and makes critical plays down the stretch that contribute to meaningful victories and a playoff win.
What if it's the latter? Will you all still feel the same way? Personally, I'm rooting for the former and see it as the more probable reality that awaits us.
Let's Go!!!

I don?t like DJ but I?m always rooting for him to prove me wrong. It just gets hard when he keeps running backwards and pouting after every incompletion or drop.I love how all you people are writing a definitive narrative on DJ with six games and likely the playoffs still to go. His body language is infuriating.
but of course if he balls out we will keep him, chances are even if he just plays the same we will probably keep him.
hustle and show us why we should DJ!!!Steelers 27

They get ultraconservative in the red zone. He'll never have more than 12-15 as long as Tomlin is around.Comment

And I was wrong. Just one TD pass in seven starts now.Pickett has just one TD pass in his last six games. And zero in his last three. But I predict that will end the next game. Fans who can wait for me to be wrong will have to deal with it, because Kenny our " special " QB going to prove me correct. I am going against the odds. After all what starting QB this year has only thrown one td pass in his last six games? The same team that has failed to win a playoff game is the last six years is the easy answer ... but I did not do much research so I could be wrong.
To use a board term it's a time based prediction.Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.
