BTW, what did people expect yesterday? This passing game has been JV for years, that Cleveland D held SF to 17 a couple weeks ago, what was magically going to happen to make the passing game hum?
Bench Kenny

The fact that the running game was working should have opened things up for the passing game.Comment

Why throw Kenny out with the bath water.Who says they can?t win games? Kenny won 6. Question is what is your hope regardless? Mason, Kenny, Mitch?
We are a borderline playoff team the won?t win if we get there. That is best case scenario REGARDLESS the QB.
Worse case scenario? Bench Kenny and WE LOOK WORSE on offense? Maybe it IS Canada and WE TRY KENNY WITH A NEW OC?
NOOOO!
Ride it out with the kid, if he fails as we expect, make the change.
Maybe Tomlin, Canada, QB coach, high school offense, etc is destroying KP. Give the kid a breather until we destroy everything and bring in someone new to work with Kenny and to be the one to decide if they want to work with him and he?s salvageable or not.
Draft a rookie QB to compete with him and see what we have.sigpicComment

Pickett still not owning his poor play. In his post game talked about "we need to be better", "we need better communication". How about "I" need to be better? For all his faults, Roethlisberger had no problem putting the offensive blame on himself even when he knew otherwise. THAT is the leadership Tomlin said KP needs to display.Comment

Bingo. Also, I don't see the point in drafting another QB in the 1st or whatever with this coaching staff and system. Why throw Kenny out with the bath water.

Honestly, I didn't think Steelers should've drafted KP and the way he's being used I 100% stand by that sentiment. Why spend a 1st rounder on a QB and use him in a way that any FA QB could deliver pretty much the same performance?Comment

I think this is the way to go (you've talked me out of my "bench Kenny immediately" stance). But I think we HAVE to draft another QB in the first 2-3 rounds next year. Similar to what TN did with Levis aftern drafting Malik Willis, who many thought could be really good, the year before. Neither one may be the guy, but you have to keep working to find the right one. Sticking with one just because they were drafted early, despite not being productive, is the definition of insanity. Why throw Kenny out with the bath water.

Levis is looking bad now. You can change QBs every other week if you are inclined. Sooner or later you realize that is not the anwser, especially with this middle-school offense.I think this is the way to go (you've talked me out of my "bench Kenny immediately" stance). I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.Comment

Joe Starkey has the best reason to bench Pickett -- to stop this OC/offense from completely ruining him. Let him start fresh next year.
What Joe doesn't realize, however, is that Tomlin will just assign his successor from within and not much will change.
Basically, this offense is screwed as long as Tomlin is in charge of it.Comment

Tommy DeVito now has more career games with multiple touchdowns than KP. I know you are saying who? Undrafted Giants QB who had a losing college career.Bingo. Also, I don't see the point in drafting another QB in the 1st or whatever with this coaching staff and system.

I think it comes down to the economics of a rookie QB deal being higher value than the price of a FA QB.
im starting to think we should consider drafting a high round QB in year 3 of the rookie deal so you have a backup plan vs the 5th year option you need to decide in year 4.
then you?re always in a position of having a rookie QB contract choice and can always try to win with the next guy by years 2-5. And then you are constantly looking to move on and let the last rookie leave year 5 or 6.
every team is doing the huge franchise QB move and that can?t be sustainable. I would be hesitant to sign any QB unless I was confident it was Tom Brady or Pat Mahommes.sigpicComment

I agree with this.
We need a completely new offensive playbook next season. Canada has to be gone. Bring in someone with a real offensive mind and give him control.
Let Kenny complete with one rookie and one veteran. I don't see the reason for keeping both Mitch AND Rudolph. Pick one, let the other go. Maybe get something for him in return.Comment

The guy can't complete passes with a high enough percentage. Period. You can't blame anyone but him for that. As everyone is saying all over the media world, " He's missing throws/wide receives" and that isn't a Canada problem. So..if he's that inept at hitting open recieves, of course Canada and Tomlin have to protect him from himself. Thus, we have scaled down, simplistic schemes that we get mad about.Pickett still not owning his poor play. In his post game talked about "we need to be better", "we need better communication". How about "I" need to be better? For all his faults, Roethlisberger had no problem putting the offensive blame on himself even when he knew otherwise. If KP could do more, they'd allow him to do more. But he's obviously limited so their hands are tied.Comment
