How much will the piss-your-pants mentality on calling offensive plays hurt this team? How much a difference can Jones, Washington, more Warren and Austin and Robinson make? Are we looking at upping our ypc up to 4.5-5.0 territory? Then maybe we can talk upgrades.
Everybody including MT have explained why play calling was so conservative last season and have all suggested that will change.
You complain about YPC then list literally Jones, Washington, and Robinson (FOUR blocking upgrades), forgot Siemalu (5th blocking upgrade), suggest that Warren might get more carries then wonder how much difference that can make in our YPC?

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

Stats out of the equation for a moment, I can share a simple reason for optimism, even with said coaches.

Think about it, they were one game out of the playoffs... honestly, a tiebreak out of the playoffs.

Between KP starting the full season (with camp) AND all the new guys - it shouldn't take much improvement to be a playoff team... again, regardless of how you feel about the coaches.

We got a wide range of voters here. The standard is set on winning a playoff game for the first time in seven years. I am not asking for much.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

You are not. we differ in opinions on many things. how KP and NH are going to do in 2023 as the biggest. But winning a playoff game is the absolute lowest standard that should be set this year.

+1. I think most Steeler fans will agree. It's been seven years since we won a playoff game. Far too long. I do not to what for wait and hope to win one playoff game in eight seasons.

Are you really saying the absolute lowest standard is for our wildcard Steelers to beat the Chiefs/Bills in the first round? You may as well just say the super bowl is the absolute lowest standard.

I suspect that you guys aren't really thinking this through, considering who the matchup would likely be against.

IMO, the minimum this year is to MAKE the playoffs.
