I am really a Ravens fan or incredibly stupid.

I give it a solid A- Very good. We have a lot of young players doing well. No major injuries. No major drama either.
Pickett the key to a good season has improved as a rookie, but our Red zone woes at quarterback still remain. That is the main negative.
Overall, I say A- , which is very good. On the offense vs. defense thing, it is best for a back and forth battle with both units making plays.

    The poll is expired.

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

I give an A. Hate to see Trice injured.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

I give it an "I." Incomplete. Even if I was there, witnessing it, I couldn't give it a grade other than an "I." I have nothing to base a grade on, other than injuries, which seems like luck. Some observers have comments that RZ offense is still not getting anyone open. That could still be just at camp, who knows?

A lot depended on how Kenny P would look.

and while I feel he’s looked good.
he also looked pretty good in preseason last year.

so will a 1 bad performance have this great coaching staff pull all the deeper passing plays again like they did last year?

        stay tuned I guess

To grade Pickett individually, first off he has improved in arm strength and looks stronger than he did as a rookie and a bit more in command of the offense. Those are good things.
But this is practice with no hitting or tackling the QB. We have to at least wait for the preseason games.

Throwing the ball to Pickens who makes plays most WR's can't with his top hands, amazing body control and good size and leaping ability and Austin who burns DB deep on a regular basis can really make any QB look good on a stat sheet. To an extent it doesn't really matter regardless who is throwing them the ball. Our WRs as a group are just better than the DB's at the levels of play be it short, medium, or deep and those 50/50 balls. #1, ,#2 , #3, and #4 WR are better than the #1 , #2, #3, and #4 CB. An ouR TE and mismatches vs.the LB's and safeties too, bit the team is much improved in coverage in this department!

I judge Pickett on drilling the ball with accuracy on the routes where the ball travels say 7 yards or more, his internal clock to find the 2nd receiver when his primary guy is covered which is a weak point in his game, his release, and his quick game day decisions which can not be accurately replicated in camp. Things like this. He tends to under throw his deep ball. That has been a negative in camp. IMO, he is not a top 12 QB in these departments which is what we need. I noticed he is not looking to run ( he has turned into a pocket passer ) and has struggled on the offense vs. defense team drills when the ball is placed in the red zone which is mostly the QB play. This is a problem.

It all comes down to KP and the D improving and I think we have all seen some huge gains thus far.

KP - stronger arm, better footwork, and overall he?s established himself as the leader of this team.

We will be fine in the RZ fans I am hopeful for a few reasons. Isaac is a huge improvement up front plus continuity along the rest of the LOS. Najee is healthy this year and he is a load to bring down which means we will run in the RZ or there will be one on one matchups and as the game slows down for KP, he shows even more accuracy.

I also like that they are trying to push the ball downfield. With KPs arm strength and mental development, I am hopeful we will know attack 10-20 yards down the middle of the field. That should help the running game as well as open everything up on the outside.

Defensively, we are just deep. So many guys with so much potential even if all the starters went down. As long as TJ stays healthy, this team is pushing for a SuperBowl for the next couple of years until KP gets a few years into a big contract.

I will say this. With the talent round him on the OL and the skill players he has to work with, this team which will have TJ Watt back is tending like a 10-7 team right now , in camp. No official predictions until cap end by me.

he says he's worked a lot on his foot work. that's probably the key in his passing arm looking stronger.

i never thought there was a problem with it anyway

I respectfully disagree until we see it. Last year we saw what happened to this team when it played legit competition: we got slobbernockered 73-16 collectively by the Bills and Eagles. How much better would we be facing teams of that quality this year? Better? How much better? Instead of 73-16, might we be like 65-24 in comparison in direct competition?

I don't know; I have my doubts we are up to competing with the true heavy weights. Our D will be a little improved, the O? With Kenny Pickett and Canada/Tomlin calling the piss-your-pants plays? I'm not sure. I don't see it, not yet. But fortunately we have almost zero heavy weights (save possibly Cinci and SF) on our schedule so we not find out how we stack up until the playoffs.

                        Last year was LAST YEAR.

We have a whole new ILB corps. Much better depth this year on the defensive side.

Am I willing to say this team is a contender? Nope.

But I can say that I *expect* improvement at a few positions (that each could really be it's own topic). Because "by how much" is the question.

OT, OG, WR, TE on the offense. ILB, CB, SS and depth (the rotation) at many more positions have all had what we hope to be improvements

I can see arguments stated as you present them. Those units could all be upgraded, but will that tip the scales and by how much, considering we have the OC/HC still calling the plays that we have? How much will the piss-your-pants mentality on calling offensive plays hurt this team? How much a difference can Jones, Washington, more Warren and Austin and Robinson make? Are we looking at upping our ypc up to 4.5-5.0 territory? Then maybe we can talk upgrades.
