the question was what style of RB do you want for your team. FWP or Bettis. Of course its in their prime. Who the hell wants FWP after a bad wheel or Bettis in his last year.

I’m taking Bettis in his prime. Dude was a beast. FWP was FAST but if things weren’t blocked perfectly he was average. Dude had no vision and no footwork. Straight line tho? FWP all day but that rarely happens in the NFL.

      In today's NFL? Parker.

Super fast. Had seasons of 1200, ~1500, 1300 yards. Could catch at least a little out of the backfield. Gives you a great 4-6 years, then on to the next guy. A threat to take it to the house on every play (which I think is important because RBs get fewer carries than they used to). People talk about FWP like he was a slouch. But he was a very good RB.

Bettis was amazing for his era. But I don't think teams run enough to play the "wear them down and get 'skinny' in the 4th Q" anymore. The rules just favor passing too much. You'd clearly be happy to have a guy like him on your team. But given the choice, I think you take the big play guy.

But it doesn't really matter what I think, because Pittsburgh hasn't really been interested in fast RBs since FWP.

Bettis is a great player and deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

When did willie become this prototypical speed back?

even though he had success for a few years I wouldn’t use him as a comparison agaibst a big back.

there’s more we can choose from.

        prime bettis or prime Faulk.
        who is everyone taking ?

i don?t think it takes a football guru to realize bettis prime was better then willies. An undrafted free agent out of college.

if you want to compare ?styles? of a speed back and a big back.
how about Marshall Faulk and bettis. Both drafted in the top 10 in their respective years.

then ask what style woukd you want today
I never once said old Bettis was better than prime Willie. I answered your question about Bettis touchdowns.

When you originally replied with your flawed assumption I replied:

To react to my direct answer to YOUR closing question as though I?m dodging something is disingenuous.

Please cut and paste where YOU ask me who who had the biggest impact over the season that year.

My answer? The starter coming into his prime (Parker) not the aging veteran who was TALKED OUT OF ALREADY RETIRING by Ben.

Question. If Levi Wallace and and Joey Porter start over Patrick Petersen, (who might wind up slot) does that make his career better than Petersen?
So yes, feel free to attack a pov I never suggested.

People can go back and read the facts.

BTW, don?t forget the ORIGINAL question. Deville asked who do you take Willie or Bettis. After page after page of talking Willie NOW you admit the obvious fact that Bettis was the better player?

You imply I dont answer the question when YOU have yet to answer Deville directly. Now you want to bounce to Faulk?

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

I’ll be happy to address your question.

But first, to be clear to Devilles question your answer is BETTIS right?

If this is open to any RB in their prime, I’m taking Earl Campbell, Alonzo Highsmith, or of course Franco.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

I wonder if they would ever be brought back under the guise of player safety. Didn't Jerry Jones complain about tackles from behind last season.

And, they have out-lawed horse-collar tackling.

Exactly why did they do away with them?

Probably money $$$, if I had to guess. Also, time to have them changed when needed, a player may miss a play or 2. Just guesswork on my part.

Might be my answer too. But what did he do related to team success? Look at Vikings year one AAP (After Adrain Petersen). You might be surprised.

It goes to my point of the real value of the position.

Terrell Davis (4.72 40 BTW) is the last HOF caliber back to start more than one (trend not anomaly) SB win.

as I asked. Why use willie as the speed back?

a UDFA outperformed bettis when on the team at the same time. That?s all I said.

Use someone around where bettis was drafted.
                                like faulk.

I take faulk every day and twice on Sundays.
