yeah, I wouldn't want us to drop that far down.Comment

I’m all for draft capital to a certain extent.
But whats the highest pick we can get out of this?
I don’t think they want to move that far back
so is getting a 4th or 5th rounder in a trade enough to possibly miss out on the guy they want/need ?
im thinking more and more they keep the pick.
Have 2 quality starters at 2 premium positions with first 2 picks.
if they can grab 2 more starters or even just contributors at 49 and 80
it will go down as a fantastic draft
Who cares about another pick in the 4th/5th round.
how often do they even make the team ??Comment

This draft is for 4 players.
I don’t give two craps about our 7ths. Those rarely make the team and are no different than the un-drafted.
Hell, I’d trade my 7ths to move up in the 3rd and 4th.How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?Comment

I agree 100 percent. The value gap between Peezy and the field is huge by many. While gurus don't matter, IF our board is similar, it will be hard to skip Peezy. If there’s a guy that you have rated at elite, you take him and don’t bother dropping back.
Draft capital is great but the reality is most picks are misses and the odds go down the longer you get into the draft.
Would love to have more picks. But getting a guy is so much more valuable.
Imagine if trade was not made. Gonzo STILL was NE target. Jets take Jones. If we were going to take Peezy at 17, there is unlikely anybody gives us reasonable value to give up a shot at our 17 target at 32.
Maybe they trade with the Raiders and hope he falls but I would suggest a day of seeing Peezy as the best value by far would cause SOMEBODY to take him.
We WILL take calls hoping for STUPID value, but if we actually trade for say a 3rd, it says the team never liked Peezy near as much as people thought.
They might be right.
If we don’t take Peezy it would not surprise if Harbaugh trades down to get a highly motivated player with Ben's fire to make his hometown team regret the snub.Last edited by Captain Lemming; 04-28-2023, 11:01 AM.sigpic
In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.
Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.
*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***Comment

and you know some of this “LOVE” for JPJ is simply because of his dad and probably not the way we truly feel about him..I agree 100 percent. The value gap between Peezy and the field is huge by many. While gurus don't matter, IF our board is similar, it will be hard to skip Peezy.

unless we take him of course but even still, not taking him at 17 already tells us he wasn’t our most coveted player.Steelers 27

What do you mean?
Just because they MOVED UP for Jones does not mean Peezy wasn’t who’d they take if Jones was gone.
”If” we had Peezys values in the teens with nobody who remains close to that you will not likely get commensurate value in a trade.
If you have him in a mix of 30 something values with other DBs a trade is a no brained.
My point is that IF he would have been pick 17 as many expected had we stood pat, you won’t make a trade unless the other team offers stupid compensation.
I would suggest that if someone wanted a player that bad he goes in a the first.
I don’t think we disagree. My point is if they trade the pick, it tells us they never liked Peezy to begin with.
I just think that the move up does not tell us that just yet.
”If” they happen to think like me, they would see it as getting TWO GUYS they saw as top 20 talents.Last edited by Captain Lemming; 04-28-2023, 12:15 PM.sigpic

If they really had Porter at #17, they wouldn’t still have pick #32 today. How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?Comment
