Burrow had a rough day. I think
not playing preseason and his surgery along with our stifling D was just too much for him.

But even with all the turnovers he had them in position to steal a win. Just foes to show playing not to lose isn’t a good formula for winning football.

the play calling was sooooo weird... they still do a lot of short passes and allow the defense to crowd the LOS because they have no fear of being beat downfield

        Mitch was erratic throwing downfield.

He really needs to trust Pickens will go get it he is one on one.

DJ made some amazing catches too.

Just throw it man.. stop being scared and let it go.

I think it will have trouble living up to that without Watt. His pressure makes everyone else better.

Mitch has 2 things going for him after that game. No turnovers. And the last drive in OT to get us into field goal range. If he can keep building on that and get better, he'll be QB1 for a while yet.

I actually preferred the OT play calling offensively - even the first drive included passes that were beyond 10 yards downfield in the air

I have said it before and will repeat it:

Barring injury, Tomlin is going to follow the Alex Smith/Patrick Mahommes approach to the grooming of Kenny Pickett as the starting QB for next year.

Kenny will get some mop up duty if the Steelers ever get a large lead (who am I kidding Tomlin teams never have a comfortalbe lead going into the 4th quarter - okay rarely is more accurate). Or if they are completely out of contention and have decided that they need to see what they have in KP.

Yes, and I expressed fear of this during the game

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Yeah, on that "rarely" if Mitch can't get us a comfortable lead given a 5 turnover head start... ain't gonna happen in a normal game.

Again is that playcalling or Mitch being aggressive knowing first score wins and Burrow ain't got Watt to worry about?

30-21 is a 10-7 average... I'd take that with this team.

Do we really believe that every QB in there has the same quirk? Or that the guy calling the plays has certain tendencies?

Did anyone else notice a scheme difference defensively by the Steelers secondary on Burrow.

It seemed to me that the db's were undercutting the WR's route on the int's because they had help over top.

Thought there were a couple of near misses in the game as well due to this.

Is this a reflection our new D coaches?

Or am I off on this observation?

a lot of that happened in zone, where the defense tends to face the QB a little more and read / react.

A lot had to do with the pressure up front, and our ability to bottle up the run. What a difference getting our D-line back makes.
