Moore played below average? Shocking for a rookie LT (that was being coached by an OL coach that got run out of town)!
You do also need to have a guy worth the money that's available and willing to come to your team.

But, I'm sure money really, really helps.

I got news for you: There are no qualifiers. Moore played poor for an NFL LT. You don't get bonus points for him being a rookie or being coached by a lame in-house picked coach. He still played below average for a starting NFL LT. Now, he could improve on that play, but he still played below average in 2021. Fact.

Did you get a look at Bush in camp? There is really no news on the guy.

It is a fact. But your universe of "NFL LT" includes guys that have been playing the position a whole lot longer than Moore. Everyone wants instant success but it doesn't always happen. The question comes back to why.
Moore lacked experience. Experience that would be taken away if they signed another starter. In fact Moore's rookie season was ranked higher than AV's and he turned out OK. Can't get there from here if he doesn't get the snaps. The Steelers have a history of patience being rewarded in many cases. I'm willing to give the guy another season of starting.

I agree with you guys about quality OTs not making it to free agency often. If they do, they are usually dealing with some type of significant injury issue or are long in the tooth.

That only underscores the importance of the position and why leaving it in the hands of an average player like Chuks and a 2nd year player is a huge gamble. I absolutely love what I'm hearing about Moore's development at LT. Even if we consider that position locked down, that still leaves Joe Average on the right side and nothing else behind them.

For the Steelers to make any noise this year - let alone shock the world - the offensive line needs to be a force majeure. The talent on the right side and the complete lack of proven depth do not equal such a force, according to my calculus. I'm firmly in the camp of bringing in the best possible tackle to take over the swing job and push Chuks for starter reps. Not any T, D, or H with OT next to their name. I think a trade is the most likely scenario, given what's available on the market. Plus, Mekhi Becton looks like he went down for the year today, so I'm sure the Jets are scrambling to look for this same guy.

Go find the friggin' guy first and make it happen.

I think we were close to doing that this year, but there weren't really many better UFA OTs than Chucks.

Next year might be different as the dead money from all those dummy contracts comes off the books (although Sutton's contract voids after this year I think? So we'll still have some).

I think Colbert said it was a multi-year process.

Hopefully we have the opportunity to draft a high quality OL (or two) next year as well.

Trade newly signed DJ for a tackle
Nah, too bad whatever signing bonus hits our cap regardless.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

                  TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher
