    Steeler coaches and hard-working players

I realize this is probably hyperbole in this comment from Sullivan, but we got almost the exact same sentiment from the RB coach last year about Najee. If these guys were coaching a young Jerry Rice or Tom Brady, would they tell them to go play video games and stop working so hard? To "get a life"?

Did Ben inculcate the entire staff to the "show up on Thursday, wing it on Sunday" approach to preparation?

Gym rats are good things. Embrace them. Let them lead and encourage others to follow. If feelings are hurt, you have the wrong guys on your team.

Steelers.com’s Missi Matthews sat down with Pittsburgh Steelers QB coach Mike Sullivan to talk about the progression of Pittsburgh’s four quarterbacks on

If he was being pushed by the coaching staff and then got hurt, what do you think would be your first post?

its a silly phrase that no one should take seriously.

Every year we hear about someone working so hard they have to be told to go home.

Kenny is putting in the work. Nothing to see here.

They blame Tomlin for our first Jags playoff loss because a player said they were worked too hard.

I think its the typical off season fluff but if it could also be coaches and trainers worrying about rookies hitting that wall pate in the season. Its a marathon, not a sprint and most rooks aren’t used to the grind of an NFL season.

We're talking about film study, not working out or practicing too hard.

Then why did you say this?

I've definitely seen people burn out before, so I think it's certainly possible that asking a guy to remember to take breaks (mentally and physically) can be beneficial for overall performance.

I also wonder if you're being too literal here.

              Apparently Sullivan said:
Kenny Pickett, coming in, is working his tail off. I mean, I gotta kick him out of the room. I mean, he's always in there putting in extra effort and picking things up.
I think this is mostly a figure of speech. Just a way of complimenting a guy for being a hard worker.

I said it because you suggested working these guys too hard could result in injury, I'm just talking about studying film.

I'm sure I'm making too much of it, but for a team that historically and chronically is not on the details, I think it would be better to not even jokingly "shame" extra hard work and film study.

I think they are complimenting guys for working hard and not shaming them.

I like that our recent high picks want to absorb everything in the class room.

hopefully our coaches can accommodate them and not shrug them off with a “ don’t worry, you’ll get it” BS
