    Opinion, we won't re-sign Johnson

Johnson is sulking, and he should be. His chances of getting a new contact from the Steelers appear thin. In fact his role with the team is unclear. He's isn't an outside the numbers type of player. He's a weak blocker. He isn't fast, and suddenly his job is in a danger as a slot guy by rookie Austin who's much faster, doesn't have a problem catching the ball and will burn those not respecting his speed, which is world class. Rookie WR Pickens is a star in the making for anyone who has seen him..in a lot of areas and Claypool is still developing. We got receiver covered and signed for cheap for years. His drops, and very few yards per catch will be a thing or the past with the Steelers because he'll be a free agent soon. Adios. That is unless the Steelers re-sign him for an estimated 80 Million dollar contract for 4 years. I think not! In fact I think his value to the suitors is greatly exaggerated by the NFL. You'll see in free agency. Let him walk and with luck with get a 5th round comp pick! I'd take a 6th round comp pick for him after the season ends.

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

Yep.. Johnson sees the writing on the wall. Maybe draft another mid round WR next year if Boykin doesn't pan out... and send DJ on his way.

DJ - don’t let the door hit ya.

Seriously I don’t want to sign him at those numbers or anything close. WR is a position that is being readily supplied by the college ranks. The vast majority can be replaced without breaking the bank. Trade him now if he holds out.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

I agree. DJ is not unique talent

Teams have to pay for production, potential, and ultimately top tier talent. DJ is closer to the top of NFL caliber talent than the "readily supplied by the college ranks. The vast majority can be replaced without breaking the bank."

Top tier NFL talent costs money. It doesn't mean the Steelers need to break the bank to resign DJ.

At the end of the day I hope the Steelers and DJ can work out a fair deal. Greedy or unfair isn't the solution.

I don’t think DJ is top tier talent. He may not even be top tier on the Steelers. He drops too many passes at the wrong time.

He produced like top tier talent. He caught 107 balls and 8 TD's in his 3rd season. He improved on his drops over his 2nd season.

Sorry bro but DJ is a baller. He got open regardless of coverages thrown his way. He got open regardless of the QB situation or Oline injuries and play.

So what he had a few drops (mistakes). He worked to improve on his mistakes. Some fans need to recalibrate fiction from reality. DJ is going to get paid based on his production and skill set even if he made mistakes. This is true of every player in sports. Every player in the history of sport made mistakes.

Johnson was the one WR that the Steelers couldn't afford to lose. His skill set is unique in the NFL today. DJ can do it all.

I wouldn’t pay him but I think we will try to get him around 15M per and he wants more than that.

                      That would be idiotic.

Again, it's not about the amount per year but the structure of the contract in the NFL. Why don't football fans get this? We are not talking about the NBA where most contracts are pretty much guaranteed.

Hopefully we dont rush to sign DJ. Claypool may end up having a breakout year this year... and then weve got a real problem...

It's not idiotic to resign a top tier talented and productive player. Caught 107 balls and 8 TD's within the Steelers offense.

Ok let's compare. AB had 151 receptions and 7 TD's after his 1st 3 seasons in the NFL. Johnson had 254 receptions and 20 TD's after his 1st three seasons. AB didn't hit his career stride until his 4th, 5th, and 6th seasons with PRIME Ben as his QB.

Fans that don't recognize talented players make me scratch my head. DJ is talented and has several high quality years of NFL production left. I don't know his character or mind set to become a HOF caliber player. The Steelers will need to determine this. I know he is productive enough and talented enough to deserve a pay day.

It's not about a rush. It boils down to skill set, production, value, and future potential. DJ fits the bill on all 4. Why can't fans see this about DJ?

The main question mark is at the Steelers QB position.
