You can sign a vet if things get desperate, but when you're down to your 3rd QB you're in trouble anyway.

That would be smart. Even better I start Mitch day one if the competition is even between him and Pickett.

If BOTH look like legit starters in the league, MT might wind up with day 2 trade value.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

Thanks Hawaiian but no longer enough of a hockey fan to be bothered. I'll watch a few games during the season when nothing else on, watched some playoff action and got together for game 7 but no big deal. I grew up a huge die hard fan as a kid and in the early 2000s realized how bad Leaf hockey was. I never fully went back.

We have been talking playoffs. Its been a while since the Leafs won a championship. 1960 something. Curious do the fan's blame the coaching for choking in the playoffs or not? We have a small thread on coaching here : )
I think part of that situation is coaching. Because they replaced a likely Hall of Fame coach with an AHL guy...even though it sounds like the HoF guy was a bit of a dick. And every playoff loss has had a razor thin margin of victory. They have only lost in game 7 (of game 5 of the 5-game play in series) and they often had the lead sometime in the 3rd.

And they exceeded expectations with the Hall of Fame guy every time, pushing teams that were better than them to the brink.

And in at least 2 of the 3 years with the AHL guy they've lost to teams there were better than (TB was arguably a better team this year despite a worse record).

But I would absolutely LOVE it if Keefe could win a Cup with "Babcock's players".

And while I think better coaching might have put them over the edge in at least on of the 10 games they've lost with a chance to eliminate another team, I think I'd put these things above coaching:
            1. they haven't had better goaltending than the other team (except maybe this year vs. Tampa) and playoff hockey is mostly a goalie contest,
            2. losing key players to injuries and wheel-of-discipline NHL suspensions,
            3. the stupid way the NHL does playoff seeding which means that really good teams often meet too early in the process,
            4. the GM not using the full leverage of the CBA when negotiating contracts with RFAs (particularly Marner) so they don't have much cap space for depth after their big-4 players, and
            5. some kind of psychological thing with the players they have.

While it was disappointing, I think that this year was probably their best series outside of the times there were big underdogs early. Their best players played well. But Tampa is a very good team.

1967 LOL. I like to say that at least I've seen one in my lifetime but truth is I was still in diapers.

Leafs fan base can compare to the Steelers' when it comes to passion, and die hard loyalty. They have lost a do or die playoff game now for 5 straight seasons (an NFL/NHL/NBA/MLB record) and fans take it as hard each time.

When it comes to blame, there is always plenty to go around. However, unlike in Steeler Nation, the coaching staff comes away relatively unscathed. Front office, big 4 players (there are 4 guys who eat up a huge chunk of the cap), goaltending (not so much this year but usually), and supporting cast usually get mentioned ahead of the coach.

BTW, I didn't know there was talk of coaching here. What does it say?

Rewatching PIT vs LAC right now. Roethlisberger with the shrug to the sidelines after the failed jet sweep by Claypool on 3rd and goal.
Fast forward, now imagine that jet sweep with Austin instead. That's what I'm talking about

The key question is which QB will the Steelers design their overall offensive passing strategy around?

Will the passing strategy involve all 3 since there isn't a clear cut number one QB at this point?

Uncertainty can bring apprehension and excitement. Especially for Steelers fans.

The Steelers have key players in which they can build around on both sides of the ball to win games and compete with any team.
