Interesting to note that they dropped fully automated timing (FAT) because they believed it would lead to slower times that players would end up being upset about. So they use a hybrid manual start with a laser plane at the end. btw, the laser can be on the opposite side of the view in the photo, so the 'fat man' wouldn't interfere.

So Austin ran a FAT 4.5 or 4.6 40?

The dude is fast. Is he the fastest ever? Who knows. I know we had a topic on 40 times a long while back and without trying to dredge it back up I am pretty sure the times are poorly correlated to NFL performance. Plenty of fast guys flame out. Plenty of slower guys ball out. BUT, there is a minimum time before a player is even considered NFL worthy. From what I remember of the writeup most WRs at the combine meet the minimum. It's almost a prerequisite for getting invited.
