Not sure how anyone could be “happy” with our run defense last year. While the ILB has to improve the DL also has to keep those guys clean.
If you gave me the kid from UConn, Travis Jones (who is a day2 kid) at NT, I'd be good.

Honestly, if this draft went something like OT, DE, NT, I'd be ecstatic. Both trenches need some rebuilding

As felt mentioned, a good NT keeps your ILB clean. A good NT would make a huge difference. Minus Heyward, our DL got pushed around easily.

        Correct, Halati Ngata made Ray-ray.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

He can't do that from the bench. Steelers play subpackages the majority of the time, teams throw on first downs, too.

Yep. Time after time we saw Minkah making tackles. This proves the OL was getting to the next level by engaging our ILB. You’re in a world of hurt when this happens on a consistent basis.

Ngata entered the NFL in Ray's 11th season. You guys are speaking in memes and talking points.

I never understood this argument. Since he may not be on the field sometimes it
means we won’t ever need him?

Well, he had Tony Siragusa and Sam Adams early in his career to keep him clean.

Ngata was also acquired after they went to a 3-4 and Ray was ineffective. I believe he requested they switch back to a 4-3 because he preferred to stay clean and shed less blocks.

I think I'd prefer 2 OL and 1 DL, but I wouldn't be upset with this.

It will be interesting to see what happens during UFA for weakness in the trenches (and the secondary, and ILB, and WR...).

AAAAH... I haven't publicly said this much, but I would fully plan to grab one of the high-end OG in free agency. So, I wouldn't need the second OL in the draft.

That makes sense to me. We need to find a C somewhere too IMO because Green is the only "C" on the roster so far...and it seems pretty clear that he isn't a center.

I kind of think we need a C, G, and T this off season. Makes sense for some to be UFA and some to be drafted.

                            I don't understand this....

The team, the players, the beat writers, keep saying they are happy with Wormley's and Loudermilk's play, but yet most fans are shouting that DT is a huge need. The same thing for Adams, yet they are screaming to draft a NT in the first round. To make matters more confusing, Alualu situation is much more clear...

I keep telling every one it was the scheme, and the poor play of the ILB that killed the D on run plays.
IDK, I've seen our D play great run D and poor run D, and the majority of the time it can be traced back to the quality of the NT: Joel Steed or Hampton - great run D. Lesser players? Weak run D. Everyone wants to keep shouting that times have changed and a NT won't be on the field as much, maybe only 40% of the time. I say BS, I've seen big Casey get to the QB when it mattered most. A total beast in the middle can play passing downs too, or has everyone already forgot Aaron Donald? He just won hardware. He was kind of important to the Rams.

Outside of Heyward, we need better DL and ILB play across the board. Even if the DL takes all the blockers, you need ILBs to run and hit. Schobert and Bush were terrible at even that. They're not turning into Ray Lewis with better DL.

But spending a first down pick on a guy who will play 33% of the plays, half of which will be running the play we drafted him for, seems like a waste.

I’m not suggesting it has to be a first round NT.

But if we could get another Heyward at DT at 20 I will do it

I think of we can get a stud NT in the 3rd round.. do it!!!

People really act like an NT can’t push the pocket back on pass plays and make
it harder for a QB to step up to avoid Watt.
