No one's laughing at Burrow now

How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?Comment

He looks like the next impressive quarterback.Who was laughing at Burrow? Everyone knew he was good coming out of college. Heck I saw it at OSU before he got injured (which led to his transfer and Haskins went off that season).
The question about the Bengals was the OL that got him killed as a rookie. Their defense was a lot better than I thought it would be and their rookie kicker looks like a young Justin Tucker.Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.
Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.
*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***Comment

30 years of futility and now they are the model franchise we should emulate.. lol.
Gotta give them credit for their recent success tho. Looks like the Bengals finally have a team that will be competitive for the next few years.

I could never understand Lewis for 16 seasons, but I do applaud them for not dumping Taylor too early. Their last couple of drafts they've hit some homeruns, and now Burrow has led a pre-season 150-1 shot into the SB. Have to give credit where it's due.Comment

Where you've been has some merit; where you're going has more. Did fans ridicule the Steelers for their four Super Bowl wins in the 70's because the 30 years prior the team was one of the biggest jokes in pro sports and football? I doubt it. From that point on, the Steelers have been a team all others had to respect, for the most part (even with recent non-playoff win streak considered).Comment

I think there are some young posters here with no sense of history. When I was a tyke in the 70s, my Dad was a Cleveland fan and used to tell me about the glory days of the Browns, which I laughed at because all I ever knew was the Steelers owning them.Where you've been has some merit; where you're going has more. I remember being unable to process the Bengals getting good in '81 as the Steelers declined. My worldview was taking a serious hit.Comment

I do think that the Bengals can have a bright future if they decide that they want to be very good (i.e. spend to the cap) vs. spend minimally and bank the money.I think there are some young posters here with no sense of history. I think Burrow could be a very good QB. And if they spend around him, they have a chance to be very competitive for a decade or so.
But I won't put it past them to go full Bungals and ruin the golden opportunity they have.Comment

I don’t think that comparison is legit.Where you've been has some merit; where you're going has more. The Bengals aren’t trying to win their 4th SB. Its their first.
and yes, I suspect fans of rival teams like the Raiders and other who had championship and success were like “meh” when we clinched our first trip to a SB.
30 years of sucking is 30 years of sucking..
gotta win those chips to get that respect.
If they win on Sunday it will be the start of their success.Steelers 27

exactly.. People tend to believe we were never the laughing stock of the NFL.I think there are some young posters here with no sense of history. I don't believe age has anything to do with one's understanding of history.I think there are some young posters here with no sense of history. There are some posters who don't respect the Steelers history of consistency. So when posters/fans are overly critical of the Steelers organization then IMO they are clueless.
The nature of sports cycles dictate that even the best run franchise will have down years. Down years can happen for several reasons. The true reality is that the Steelers haven't had a down year (losing season) for a long long time. Almost every year that Tomlin coached the Steelers they were in the playoffs or contention for the playoffs.
Some fans need a reality check. So as I said in the past, I will take the competitive/winning seasons and playoff exits until the Steelers can manage to build another Superbowl winner.Comment
