    Steelers cuts/FA decisions coming up

    These are the obvious ones.

    1. Schobert. $7.8 mill for a mid-level ILB? I don't think so.

    2. Banner, $5 mill. The guy seems forever dinged. Too much $.

    3. Derek Watt, $2.75 mill. I never understood the signing to begin with, other than the Steelers "All in the Family" approach. (Didn't they just resign Edmunds brother at RB too? The must have missed that episode of "The Office" called "Nepotism.") Every year we are told how awesome our FB is, and how much more they are going to be used, only to witness less than one carry or one catch a game, again. (He had a total of one carry and three catches for the season.)

    4. Tuitt. $9 mill. There is a real mystery here. Something stinks. He has only played half of the games he's been on the team for, so far. When he plays, he's a force. But, only half the games? $9 mill for that?

Sign a decent DE for half that and draft one. Move on.

    Free agents to let walk

    1. Ben. Retired
    2. Joe Haden. He still played pretty solid this season, but not well enough to command what he's gonna want.
    3. JuJu - I know a lot of you want him back, but I say only at a reasonable price to go with his production the last 2 years, not his one breakout season which was 3 years ago.
    4. Ebron - ba bye
    5. Witherspoon. Sign, but don't break the bank.
    6. Edmunds. No. But they will.
    7. Turner. I would if reasonable. OL needs some vet presence.

Good summary, I mostly agree. I would like to see us re-sign Edmunds & JuJu UNLESS they want crazy money.

      Mu only disagreements are:

Tuitt, I wold have to talk with him first to determine where his head is at and if he wants to continue playing football.
Witherspoon - sign (this guy made some plays down the stretch and seemed to be around the ball a lot)
Edmunds - sign (Minkah and Edmunds seem to be forming a great team on the backend)
      Turner - No

      The 2025 Pittsburgh Steeler draft

      1.21 - Derrick Harmon, DT, Oregon - Nick Emmanwori, S, S. Carolina
3.83 - Kaleb Johnson, RB, Iowa - DJ Giddens, RB, Kans St
3.123 - Will Howard, QB, OSU
4.156 - JJ Pegues, DT, Ole Miss
5.185 - Clay Webb, OG, Jack St
      7.229 - Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, DT, Georgia

I agree on Tuiit. Speak to him, is this physical or mental? Both?

        Double no on Turner.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

I hope Juju signs with the Steelers but don't see it happening partly because of the offense/QB situation. He took a weird 1 year deal to come back because of Ben but that's obviously not the case now.

The Watt situation is just pure incompetency from the FO to coaches. Just no excuse for that.

I was really disappointed in the Schobert situation, thought he'd be better, he's a good coverage LB which I thought the team could use but overall just meh, part of that might've been the defense itself though.

          Hopefully Witherspoon is back.

Agree for the most part. A couple of thoughts...

Your number is wrong on Tuitt. $9.68M is not the cap savings, it is the dead money hit. The savings is $4.295M. With that in mind, a long talk is in order. A healthy (mind and body) Tuitt is a keeper at that cost. A Tuitt on the sideline is not. Need to know where he's at first.

Edmunds I pursue. He is a fine safety and a fit at the right price. Not sure what that number is but probably in the $6-8M range. Same numbers around for Witherspoon.

Turner - eh, whatever. A vet lineman can be found if not.

Alualu - you didn't mention but I put him in the same boat as Tuitt. I'm happy to keep him and not save $2.5M, but he is 34 and coming off a season ending injury. I want to know if he is healthy he might actually make the decision himself.

Isn't Watt the ST captain? Don't think they're cutting, maybe restructuring.

                These are the obvious ones.

                1. Schobert. $7.8 mill for a mid-level ILB? I don't think so. Definitely not what the Steelers envisioned with this pickup. The Steelers need depth. I'd offer him backup money, take it or leave it.

                2. Banner, $5 mill. The guy seems forever dinged. Too much $. Too much preseason talk, not near enough performance. What did he end with? maybe a half dozen snaps? Buh-bye.

(He had a total of one carry and three catches for the season.) It's the money they are paying him, not the signing itself. Too rarely used in his listed position. He needs to take a 'family discount'.

                4. Tuitt. $9 mill. There is a real mystery here. Something stinks. He has only played half of the games he's been on the team for, so far. When he plays, he's a force. But, only half the games? $9 mill for that? I've moved on from Tuitt and the team should too. Don't really care if he thinks he wants to play. When your heart is only in it half way, that is generally how you will play.

Sign a decent DE for half that and draft one. Move on.

                Free agents to let walk

                1. Ben. Retired
                2. Joe Haden. He still played pretty solid this season, but not well enough to command what he's gonna want. Offer backup money. The young CBs talked all season long about how Haden was helpful in film study. The guy is very bright. Might even turn into a decent DB coach.
                3. JuJu - I know a lot of you want him back, but I say only at a reasonable price to go with his production the last 2 years, not his one breakout season which was 3 years ago. Offer #2 WR money or let him go.
                4. Ebron - ba by Never a fan of this guy...
                5. Witherspoon. Sign, but don't break the bank. Somehow convince him he was in an ideal situation with the Steelers pass rushers making his job easier. I'd offer him something in the neighborhood of Sutton's contract.
                6. Edmunds. No. But they will. Yes. Unless you want to overpay a FA or go back into the draft lottery for DB.
                7. Turner. I would if reasonable. OL needs some vet presence. Same as Schobert, offer backup money. Take it or leave it.
                my thoughts.....

They must make a strong effort to resign Witherspoon, especially if Haden leaves. Bottom line is Witherspoon made plays and I don’t think we would miss a beat with him filling Haden’s spot.

                    Keep Witherspoon.

Learn to use a FB and keep Watt.

Hopefully Juju, but don't see it happening.

Not much. I was hoping to see Watt more for blocking. Frustrating to see Najee being met in the backfield on run plays.

The problem I think is that playing a FB brings even more guys into the box.

We tried this against CIN IIRC and got owned.

I think the way the Tuitt deal was structured, Steelers would get 9.05 mil in cap savings if he's cut, or traded, post 06/01/22.

I kinda have a meh feeling about all these guys. The Steelers are becoming more like the Pirates every day.
