Well, they just restructured Mahomes contract..clearing 9.6 mil. And are poised to repeat. So all this " gonna get you in the end stuff" seems like sour grapes to me; showing frustration from some unexpected posters who are generally rah rah guys for the status quo around here. Now I see that secretly, they really are as upset about the last decade plus of wasting away a franchise QB like I am.
Now we are getting somewhere!
Chiefs, Mahommes SB era done. Your salary cap advantage just ended.

True fans are supposed to hate OTHER TEAMS.
Haters gonna hate the team they pretend to support.Last edited by Captain Lemming; 03-16-2023, 05:24 PM.Leave a comment:

Fans here would not rate GB as successful over Rodgers career though, right?
Or NO.
At least if the standards were consistent
Buff is too early to tell (and still haven't had a market level QB cap hit). Allen has a high AAV, but his cap hit this year was $10.2M. That's less than half what Ben's hit was this year. And also less than what his hit will be next year while he's doing God's other work (not playing for the Steelers). That's not Ben's fault, just a choice we made.Leave a comment:

all that lack of cap sssssssssssssssssspace
they gnna SUCK BIG TIME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jeezus f'in christ. I used to post on a penguins/hockey board a lot and had fans of other teams try to bash the penguins because they had high cap players like crosby, malkin, letang etc
oh the horror of winning those stanley cups with only thousands left to spare in cap spaceLeave a comment:

Well yeah, it's the same exact concept. I don't think the Chiefs will suck and the Penguins didn't suck between 2009 and 2016. But if you look at the Penguins, they weren't able to take the team over the top until they had a crop of young talent on rookie contracts AND the salary cap rose to the point where the Crosby, Malkin, and Letang contracts were no longer significantly impacting flexibility.
Those last two cups were built on the backs of guys like Guentzel, Rust, Murray, Bonino, etc. The market inefficiency guys, not the superstars. Sure, the superstars played a role but they were also a constant through that whole period so clearly they weren't the differentiator. Those guys all got paid and all the sudden the depth down the lineup was lacking. Same thing with guys like Talbot, Orpik, Scuderi, and Letang (was on his ELC) in 2009.
It's the reality of the NFL and the NHL. The NBA is a bit different with their soft cap and the fact that one player has significantly more impact on the game, more than even a QB in the NFL. In all cases, it's better for the sport than the way the MLB is set up.
you will always need young talent to win. be it at QB where it doesn't take up cap space or like having a guy like watt or fitz on rookie deals.

Not sure about the Pens cap situation but they are ballin out this year.
I suggest anyone who wants to see more Pens games to get the Disney, Hulu, ESPN+ bundle.
or just get ESPN+Leave a comment:

There were other factors at play for the Pens as well though, coaching change, acquiring Phil Kessel who made a big difference in the playoffs, general personnel and drafting moves, etc. The Pens found guys who actually fit their system, speedy guys and fit them under the cap.Leave a comment:

You guys completely miss the point of my thread.
I am NOT SAYING teams are worse of because of a high paid QB than they would be without one. Great QB play will never result in a trash team. QB is the MOST IMPORTANT position. They had to pay him.
I WOULD PAY MAHOMMES IF I WAS KC.
KC is pure TRASH without Mahomes. I know that. The Steelers would be BETTER with him despite the salary. I am not arguing THAT point.
My point is it is hard to win CHAMPIONSHIPS with ONE GUY taking so much of the cap. THAT is proven fact. This WILL hurt KCs chances as compared to dominating the conference in recent years.
We see this all the time.
People bag on Rodgers playoff record. Dude has a passer rating of over 100. Wilson has a 95. Bens is 86.
ALL THESE GUYS only went SBs when they had the best defenses of their careers. They won when they were cheaper.
Nevertheless, the teams made plenty of playoffs thanks to those QBs.
THAT is the situation going forward for Mahommes and the Chiefs.Last edited by Captain Lemming; 02-03-2022, 02:25 AM.Leave a comment:
