There have been 5 games in which TJ has either not played or played less than 50% of defensive snaps. Steelers record in those games? 0-4-1. 0-5-1 if you go to 55%.
Throw in Haden who has completely missed 5 games for a record of 1-4.
Imagine if he didn't miss games with injuries and imagine if he was playing next to Tuitt all season long.
Where would he be sack total wise??
Who knows? He played next to Tuitt last season ... maybe Tuitt or someone else would have garnered more sacks, maybe TJ's sack total would have been diminished.
Sack total is a bit of an overrated statistic anyway, IMO. Steelers lead the NFL in sacks this season, but our D has been far from league-leading. One Cleveland drive late in last night's game serves to illustrate this point really well -- we got 3 sacks on Baker during the drive, yet they still ended up going 76 yards in 17 plays and scoring a TD.
TJ is a mighty impressive player, no doubt, but we need some other pieces in place to have a championship defense. If Cleveland had been smarter, and attacked the interior of our D with their running game, I think we'd have seen, once again, how flawed our defense really is. There's a lot of work to be done. Hopefully, lots of good steps in that direction will take place in the offseason.
It would be the ultimate irony to have Watt tie or break the record playing against AV this week. (I know he usually lines up on RT but who knows what they are planning)

Hopefully Watts contract doesn’t compromise our ability to surround him with talent.
