This weekend in Steelers fake FG history....
Bill Cowher thought that using placekicker Gary Anderson as a runner would be a smart idea. He was wrong.
The Steelers then ended up losing by a FG in OT.

Would love to hear (and know I will) the defense of Tomlin’s ridiculous decision to fake a field goal with a direct snap to our kicker when the Steelers were about to take the lead going into the half of a must win game and get the ball back after the half.
It’s possible our kicker just got knocked out of the game with this hare-brained amateurish garbage call.Comment

Yep. I blame Roethlisberger for the win yesterday; #105 http://www.planetsteelers.com/forums...ell-Now/page11
OL also bailed him by keeping him clean most of the game.
Bailouts all around!!!Steelers 27

When is the time to fake a field goal? I'm seriously asking. It sounds like you are saying it should only be tried (1) when you are ahead and (2) in the second half.
Other posters, like the OP, seem to have absolutely no idea when a field goal should be tried, rendering their opinions on yesterday's fake field goal unsupportable and frivolous even if correct (stopped clock phenomena).
It was 4th and 9 in a low scoring slug fest tied 3-3 with half the game left and you think it was a good idea to trade a sure 3 points for the chance that our kicker would complete a 20 yard pass into the end zone? All the hypos in the world aren't going to magically make that decision a good one.Comment

cool, so you're saying you never blamed him for a loss, never taken a shot at criticizing him, never made fun of him on this forum.
Am i getting that right?Comment

The "OP" does not owe you answers to your absurd hypotheticals. The discussion that the "OP" started is about the actual decision that was made, not a series of hypothetical fake field goals in scenarios that did not exist. Your claim that I cannot come up with a hypothetical fake field goal option that I would support is a ludicrous attempt to deflect from the actual issue. You have no argument and so you attack me personally and call my argument "frivolous" even if correct. Well GFY if that is your attitude. Your false choice of me being required to jump through imaginary hoops in order to criticize an obviously ridiculous call is just you being a fool.

Then you can't read because I reject the BS reasoning of any play that works is a good call. I've argued against that BS circular reasoning on here every season I have ever posted on here.
Me coming up with a fake field goal call that I personally approve is not connected in any way to the one we all witnessed yesterday. It is a good call or a bad call. MCHammer coming up with hypos has literally no effect on this. In a universe where I do not exist, the call is still horrible (or not if you are dumb). It is not about me and the attempt to make it about me is a misdirection ploy.Comment

It's unfortunate that you can't recognize Tomlin for his coaching prowess among his peers today. Oh well. At the end of the day you are the one with the "hater" problem. May the negative side of the universe bless you.Comment

Since that time, one of our best field goal researchers has uncovered a VERY similar fake field goal attempt in 2018 against Denver. Was that a good call in your opinion? If so, what distinguishes it from yesterday's call? If not, you can wash the gravy stains out of your socks, and admit that you believe fake field goals are never a good call. I'd actually agree with you if that latter point was your opinion.Comment
