wow, you don't think somone on the sidelines, maybe a coach, would say "don't snap the ball"

you're trying to pin that on ben?

blaming anyone for snapping the ball with a few seconds left is hilarious.

It’s possible our kicker just got knocked out of the game with this hare-brained amateurish garbage call.
If you are going to try a fake field goal - and my guess is that half the teams in the league try at least one per year - this seemed like a decent time to do it.

When would you try a fake field goal? What's your guidance on when to try them?

let the clock run out and take the penalty. yardage doesn't matter at that point. taking the most time off the clock does.

but we WON !!!!!!!! tOMLiN YiNz a GeNiUs !!!!!!!!!!!!
WRONG. You cannot end a game with multiple offensive penalties on the same down. DJ's false start screwed them... This has been a rule for 3 or 4 years. Do your homework bud. So it seems the coach was a genius after all.

You're the one pinning trying to pin it on someone.

I still think the clock wouldn't have started up again.

I'm just asking who is responsible for starting any given play. And trying to figure out if you genuinely think it's the coach (when the answer is obviously someone who isn't the coach).

You have to go deeper NC.

Tomlin is (or at least has been?) on the competition committee.

If you can't win the game without running that play, who's fault is it?

I'll give you a hint. His name rhymes with "Tike Momlin".

How about not when you have a chip shot field goal to take the lead.

Something is wrong with people. In a perfect world things would go perfectly. But here we are talking about this ish even though the Steelers won. Now what are odds that the Browns would had won even if they had 1 to 4 seconds on the clock? Odds probably 0.0000000000001%

Some people need to get a life is all I can say.

No, I asked when would you try a fake field goal. I wasn't looking for a rhetorical one liner referring to the failed attempt today.

I don’t care what you asked. It was a stupid call and would have been stupid even if it worked. That’s what some of you boneheads can’t seem to grasp about football. Tomlin took 3 points off the board for a a chance at a gimmick play in a must win game when the score was tied. There was only one acceptable call. Kick the FG.

Ultimately, my guess is that the expected value of a fake FG is less than just taking the points. Take the 3 points and multiply by the chance of making it. Then take the 7 points and multiply that by the chance of making the conversion and all the other things I'd need to get a TD.

My guess is that a fake FG is worse than a long 2 numbers wise in the NBA.

Times when I think I might do it.

When it was at the edge of the FG kickers range.

Maybe if I'd seen something on film I wanted to exploit.

If I was up by a lot and wanted to put something on film.

If my offense was very good and I knew I'd have many othe opportunities to score points.

My FG kicker isn't good (or is injured... Or the long snapper or holder are injured), so the chances of making the kick are low.

Playing Madden... Because kicking of any kind is only allowed at the beginning of a half and after scoring a TD.
