Ben is not the main problem!

The worst read on a defense was on 4th and 10 last Sunday. While the coaches seem to be backing him we are all stunned by his lack of improvisation which he was known for in crunch time.

Hate to break the bad news...No matter what QB is on this team will not change things for the better, tell other positions are fixed....We need speed on Wide Receivers, OL upgrades, better game planning and schemas, Receivers that don't drop the ball, less injuries, less penalties, yes Ben can improve some with chemistry with his receivers but, he is not the main issue as much as you want him to be...

Anytime an offense struggles it's a variety of things....BUT i'd contend Ben is the main problem. Almost every time the OL does give him time to throw long he's missing almost every time.

Because of that defenses are stacking the LOS & nothing else works well.

Ever since Tomlin/Rooney got rid of "can't get the bisquit without the risk it" Arians & brought in Haley, Ben has been in a brainwashing program to stop improvising as much & just get rid of the football quicker to prolong his career. They took the QB sneak out of the playbook even in 2 playoff games like Jaguars where we failed conversion on two 4th & 1's.......Can't blame Ben at this point for "settling".

If he is avoiding the middle of the field is this play design or on Roethlisberger? He didn't seem to be doing it in 2018 with Fichtner but it started last season (and has continued this season). I have to think this is QB related unless Canada is an idiot hoping for a different result.

I wonder how much of it is him avoiding the middle and how much of it is defenses taking the middle away and daring him to throw deep down the sidelines.

Seems like maybe that's what Dallas did last year to us (this was the first game where I remember it anyway)? Then everyone followed suit.

And we just aren't able to beat it.

And teams don't really do much game planning in the preseason.

M. Hoge says that 1 in every 3 plays someone on the OL is missing an assignment. Says Canada apparently didn't think the floor performance would get this low, especially on running downs. Says the line is marginally better than Jags and Jets. Roethlisberger is not trusting his line at this point. He's been fine in practice according to Prisuta.
