That how I see it on Norwood. A nice to have slot corner signed for cheap. Nothing wrong with that. He's rock solid just don't count on him as an outside starter. We've certainly had our share of misses.
But Sutton was drafted late in the 3rd.
And Pierre looks to have a floor of NFL CB.
If Norwood can be a legit slot option, the CB depth chart next year won't be the terrible mess I was expecting.
I think it will be interesting to see what we do with so few picks next off season.Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.
Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.
*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***Comment

Having a good slot CB is almost as important as the outside guys in the modern game. It's why Hilton is making as much money as some outside CBs.
Then you got a guy like Witherspoon who is never on field and is making more than any Steeler CB not named Haden. That is sad.Comment

what's he making??
I thought people on here said there wasn't enough money to go after veteran OL help
ingram, schobert, witherspoon. ebron doing nothing. seems like room could have been madeComment

They signed "veteran" Oline help. The signed Finney, Hassenauer, and Turner.
The question is what "great" Olinemen could they had signed considering all the know factors at play during the team building process? What would the Steelers have to give up or lose in return to have one great Olineman?Comment

Who was available that was both good and cost a similar amount to Witherspoon or Schobert?
Pop quiz: How many OL did we sign this offseason? And who were they?
This probably gives some indication to what the Steelers thought the answer to the above question was.
Maybe there is someone else, but OL are hard to come by because everyone needs them.
Answer (Text is black, but you can see it if you highlight): Turner (OG). And Haeg (OR). And Finney (OG/C). And JC Hassenauer (OC).
Just because you don't like the OL we signed this offseason doesn't mean that we didn't sign them. All of these guys above were signed this offseason to cheap contracts as insurance / competition for OL jobs.Comment

The Steelers also probably didn't expect Decastro to be cut so late in the team building process. People that want to be overly critical don't want to think about the various factors at play. Like player availability, salary cap, injuries, great player cost, draft, ect.Who was available that was both good and cost a similar amount to Witherspoon or Schobert?

As if the organization "wanted" to go into the season with a revamped Oline and overall young offensive unit.
Maybe the Steelers should had given away their next 3 first round draft picks to acquire quality Olinemen? Maybe it wouldn't work out anyway? Sometimes teams probably need young players fighting hard for their next big contracts. Especially the later round picks who are not being paid like premium picks. Some teams probably get the best production out of those types of young players. Just a thought.Last edited by BURGH86STEEL; 10-30-2021, 05:03 PM.Comment

huh? 2 guys on the fringe of being out of the league and turner who regressed so much the chargers chose not to re sign him you call that veteran OL help? were they even starting on their former teamsThey signed "veteran" Oline help. The signed Finney, Hassenauer, and Turner.

and turner was signed after decastro retired and whatever cap hit relief we got from that.
and to answer your question about who was available. there was okung/trent williams out there (i keep getting the 2 mixed up) and i'll repeat that AV was signed by the ravens for a not so outrageous contractComment

why don't they use these fringe type signing for the defense? isn't that mikey's specialty? why does he need starters from the year before on other teams and coach them up if he's soooo special?Comment

maybe you should ask Colbert..
and even when we do sign players on offense who were starters on other teams people complain about it.
the reality is some fans simply like to complain about everything this organization does simply because they despise the head coachSteelers 27

They did hire fringe guys on D.
Ingram and Schobert are similar to Turner. Good past performance, but big question marks.
I think they would have made more signings like that on the OL if able. My guess is that they weren't available.
The place to get OL help was the draft not UFA IMOLast edited by Northern_Blitz; 10-31-2021, 06:25 AM.Comment

Ok genius what "great" Olinemen were available considering the Steelers salary cap or "draft" capital? Maybe they attempted to get better Olinemen but the price was to steep? I don't know? Do you?huh? 2 guys on the fringe of being out of the league and turner who regressed so much the chargers chose not to re sign him you call that veteran OL help? were they even starting on their former teams

Teams sign players/veterans all the time that are on fringe players because they have experience and can play. Some times teams trade for veteran players. A lot of "fringe" veteran players have long careers because they can play. Willie Gay was on of those players that comes off the top of my head. Townsand. I know some others.
Were those players great? No. But those players were "salary cap friendly", knew their roles, assignments, where they fit in, something else, ect.
I hate to give you a pacifier like you are a "baby". This ish isn't new.
Okung and Williams? You can't do any better than 13 mill (Okung) or Williams (did you check his contract structure?) Come on man............ Steelers probably didn't have the money or "want" to sign either player. Like either were going to put the Steelers over the top this season. SMH. Critical for NOTHING or poor analysis on your part.Last edited by BURGH86STEEL; 10-30-2021, 10:14 PM.Comment

KC completely revamped their OL with two high draft picks + major FA signing and look what it's gotten them, same number of wins as the Steelers. Meanwhile there defense is a wet paper towel. Really comes down to how teams want to spend their limited cap space.huh? 2 guys on the fringe of being out of the league and turner who regressed so much the chargers chose not to re sign him you call that veteran OL help? were they even starting on their former teams

I don't think it's simply how teams want to spend cap space. Sometimes it boils down different variables. There are not enough high quality players to go around at every position. NFL players are elite.
The elite of the elite NFL players are higher quality than Navy Seal elite.
Often times if teams can't improve one area of the team they attempt to add depth or improve another area. No team in the NFL can have quality depth at every position. This is the reality of professional sports.Comment

Dude it doesn't matter to you...you'd just credit THE LAST coach they had no matter HOW BAD they were before.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:
