I get it. Matt Canada doesn’t want to show too much in a meaningless preseason game, but does that mean the Steelers can’t attack the middle of the field in the passing game? A lot of the passes on Thursday night were just check downs or the Randy Fichtner style quick hitting passes. It is early, but I would love to see the offense start being more aggressive down the middle of the field, especially in the preseason.

Yeah but.
This breakdown was really interesting showing the back and forth playcalling by OC Canada and DC Dan Quinn. Finally an OC that can make in-game adjustments. Only question mark is how much of the offense Roethlisberger will be able/willing to run.
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys squared off in the Hall of Fame game, and it was a good debut for the Steelers’ new play caller and the offensive line.
Man, if that offense in PHI was a glimpse of what the Steelers do this season we are in for some offensive football. I don't know about you but on those play actions I couldn't tell whether it was going to be a run or pass. Although I will say Rudolph really needs to sell the fake handoff a lot better. But TEs and WRs on sweeps while the RB takes it up the gut had the defense huffing by the end of the 2nd qtr. On the radio today they said the Philly defense looked spent by the 3rd qtr. So glad RF ball is behind us.
Canada will be Roethlisberger's first OC that works from the press box. My guess is there are pros and cons to this. You can see the entire field and how the defensive formations deployed. On the other hand you can't gather the offense together for in-game coaching.

But you have a very experienced QB Coach in Mike Sullivan on the sideline. I'm not sure how much "in game coaching" the OC needs to do versus the units coaches, i.e. OL, WR, etc. They are all connected and talking and I think Canada probably gets more insights from up on high. Will be interesting to see how it plays out
"My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"

I thought Whiz did too...but I could be wrong. Either way, it's been a long time.
Coincidently, I think we've mostly been about lining up and executing what we're good at vs. playing the chess match across that span of time.
