    Predicting AFCN 2020

    So, we've had the draft and most of free agency, so I feel an updated prognostication may be in order. Going alphabetically...

    Balt

    Cleve - W, @Hous - W, KC - L, @Skins - W, Cinci - W, @Philly - W, Pgh - W, @Colts - W, @NE - W, TN - W, @Pgh - L, Dallas - L, @Cleve - W, Jags - W, NYG - W, @Cinci - W. 13-3. Unless they run into significant injuries, they are too good to lose more than a few. The talent they added to a team who was already 14-2....wow.

    Cinci

    LAC - L, @Browns - L, @Philly - L, Jax - W, @Balt - L, @Indy - L, Browns - W, TN - L, @Pgh - L, @Skins - L, NYG - W, @Fins - L, Dallas - L, Steelers - L, @Houston - L, Balt. - L. I see 2 wins, could squeez 2 more for 4-12. I'll split the difference at 3-13. Burrow could be good some day, but not as a rookie. I know little about their head coach, but it appears to me they are the same old Bengals, with Mike Brown leading the ineptitude way.

    Cleveland

    @Balt. - L, Cinci - W, Skins - W, @Dallas - L, Colts - W, @Pgh - L, @Cinci - W, LV - W, Hous - L, Philly - L, @Jags - W, @TN - L, Balt. - L, @NYG - W, @ NYJ - W, Pgh - W. I see them around 8-8, could surprise with 10 wins if things break right. I think the O will be pretty good but D can still be run on.

    Pgh

    @NYG - W, Den - W, Hous - L, @TN - L, Philly - W, Clev - W, @Balt - L, @Dallas - L, Cinc - W, @Jags - W, Balt - W, Skins - W, @Bills - L, @Cinci - W, Colts - W, @Cleve - L. 10-6. Should be good enough to make playoffs. But will we be able to beat the Ravens and KC if we face them in the playoffs?

    I’m not combing through the schedules but I think the division still goes through Baltimore this year.

    I don’t see us losing to Cleveland with Ben under center tho. I think we can go 11-5 if we keep the turnovers down

        Plus, all they did was add Dobbins and Duvernay to the team, making LJ have even more weapons. They are gonna be hell to beat, as D has added talent as well.

          The defense of their's is the key; On paper, it's a beast. They will be in every game because of it.

          But we are still going to win the division with a 10-6 or 11-5 record.

            I see beating Cincy twice, splitting with cleveland and losing twice to Baltimore.
            I think the bills are a win but a loss to Indy.
            10-6 sounds about right but I see Cleveland with the same record.
            Is this year when 7 teams make the playoffs?
            How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?

              I hate the fact the Browns are so quiet.

                Bingo, bad sign. I liked them running their mouths last year and knew it meant they would underachieve. Baker has shut up.

                  Me too. They are talented. If they just grow up they will be scary.

                  In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

                  TCFCLTC-
                  The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

                    Yup. Lots of pieces all coming together at once had lots of people predicting major success.
                    I honestly can't remember too many teams not having some growing pains in their rise.
                    I think a year if being humbled will do them well.

                      And let's face it, Freddie Kitchens was a joke at head coach. ANYONE is better.

                        Whew that's a relief because last year he looked like the best QB in the league.

                          Freddy wasn't given the chance to show how good he is.

                            And he's right back to being a position coach, not even an OC.

                              As great as LJ looked this year, I would not be surprised if we don't see a repeat. His success is largely due to him having a non-traditional style and skillset. He also has an offense tailored around that - great coaching by the Ravens staff.

                              In the past, there have been several QBs who have had success playing the game differently. In time, defenses have found their weaknesses and adjusted gameplans to force them into a less comfortable situation. As the weakness gets exposed, the young QB often loses patience and composure, and makes mistakes that he was not making when allowed to play his own game.

                              I'm not saying this will be the case, but history shows that a QB who is not capable of consistently dropping back and making all the throws will eventually be solved. Let's see if teams can now figure out a way to force him into that, and if he can do it.
