        I don't know about that.

If we got average QB play last year, we at least make the playoffs.

And if the D is as fearsome as they were last year, I think they make it so we could beat anyone. The problem last year was that the O needed the D to score more points than the other team most weeks. We would have been a reasonably good team with an average offense last year.

How about Joe Flacco for 1 year as back up? He'd be a lot cheaper than Andy D.

Because at this stage in his career he's a way worse player...Not even better than what we have in Rudolph imo

He’d be good for us but your right; he has a ton of options. He’d be a top three backup in this league wherever he lands.

We're not made like other teams / fan bases tho.... SB or bust. The only reason we thought playoffs woulda been fun last year is cuz it would have been a signal of our future with the 2 youngins

The other thing of note, part of the reason for a veteran backup is *if* the QB misses a handful of games, but not the whole season (as we saw many times with Batch, Leftwich, Vick, etc). It'd be nice to have someone that could go .500 during any multi-game absences by Ben.

Maybe hard to believe, but I believe our last few backups have done just that: won half or more of their games. For as bad as a lot of us thought Landry Jones was, I think he was around .500 in the win-loss column.

This is why I think the Dobbs and Mason picks were wasted. Landry was a reasonable back up.

I would have rather used those picks to try to make the team better and then suck for a few years when Ben's done and try to get a good QB.

I guess our problem is that we never really suck and it's tough to get an elite QB picking out of the top 5. Even with Ben, we got lucky that there were 3 franchise QBs in that draft and the Browns are the Browns and picked a bad TE instead of a franchise QB.

NFL Network's Steve Wyche reports the Jaguars have "legitimate interest" in free agent Andy Dalton.

Dalton requested his release from the Bengals and was granted it Thursday morning. The connection to Jacksonville is obvious, as Dalton's former coach Jay Gruden is the Jaguars' new OC. Gardner Minshew is going to get a chance to start in 2020, but we wouldn't expect his leash to be long under coach Doug Marrone, who is very much on the hot seat. Dalton also knows Gruden's offense in his sleep, making it that much easier in this peculiar offseason where players and coaches are unable to meet in person. With Dalton requesting his release, you would think he has something lined up already.

i think that's why many of us woulda vomited had they taken a QB this year.. because a guy like Jake Fromm (who i just LOVED) would have been another Mason...

i DO see the 1st rounder in 2021 being a QB. Wouldn't be totally shocked by a trade up if the team does well and picks too far down.

Who is that 1st Round QB in 2021 who will be available late in the 1st Round that you see us taking and will be good enough to be the next Ben?

For the answer to that question, try checking his mock draft in his sig.

                              Me too.

                              I absolutely didn't want a QB.

And I was hoping for no RB either...but at least we didn't get one early and we got a guy who is different than our other options.

It's super unlikely that we get the next Ben.

I think we should really just be shooting for a guy that can be an average QB in the league (which is actually pretty hard to do). If we get something better than that, that's great. But the Bills have been looking for the next Kelly for a while...and the Dolphins the next Marino.

If only QBs were like coaches and we could keep them for longer. I don't think we'll see someone as good as Ben under center for a while.
